As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will perform a range of duties which include preparing the patient to see the Optometrist and conduct preliminary exam and captures medical history. In addition, the preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Make introductions and establish rapport with patients.
- Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.
- Maintains and cleans all the ophthalmic equipment being used.
- Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by the doctor, with full documentation in patient chart.
- Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment.
- Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re-charge wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers
- Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines.
- Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues.
- Executes duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
- Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
- Basic computer literacy required.
- Highly energetic with a positive attitude.
- Must be able to walk and stand for ten hours.
- Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred.
- Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred/Ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
