Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced data engineer to overhaul our current databases. You will oversee the design and implementation of a master database management system that can house current and historical vegetation data over the entire service territory. The new system will allow anyone to quickly search and retrieve accurate and versioned vegetation data that is easily joined with inspections, poles, and any other databases that allow us to know and track which trees to trim when and by whom. We are looking for a technical leader who has experience charting a path through ambiguity and bringing multiple departments onboard to their vision.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $151,000

Bay Area Maximum: $257,000

California Minimum: $143,000

California Maximum: $244,000

• This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.
• This position is hybrid. You will work from your remote office and your assigned location based on business needs. The headquarters location is flexible within the PG&E service territory.

Responsibilities

1. Technical
   1. Database Design and Implementation
      1. Assess state of current architecture in serving business needs.
      2. Oversee design and implementation of database system for housing, versioning, refreshing vegetation data that is accessible, up-to-date, searchable with existing GIS, transmission, distribution inspection, tree trimming, reporting, and customer databases.
      3. Excellent documentarian - Vegetation Management is under the oversight of multiple regulatory agencies. We need organized and versioned documentation on why and when decisions were made.
   2. Design and oversee execution of Master Database Management of databases such as GIS, SQL, remote sensing, invoicing, inspections, vegetation catalogs.

1. Leadership
   1. Hire and oversee employees, contractors, or consultants in database build.
   2. Mentor and coach analysts in using new databases.
   3. Assess skills of existing team and provide training recommendations.
   4. Provide technical vision and roadmap for future state of Vegetation Management.

1. Culture
   1. Chart a path through ambiguity with a bias towards action.
   2. Collaboration
      1. Gather requirements from IT, GIS, Transmission, Distribution, Vegetation Management, Data Governance in database design. Provide timeline and effort estimates to leadership.
      2. Co-build databases with IT.
   3. Communication
      1. Communicate with senior leadership on proposed database recommendation over others.

Qualifications

Minimum:

• Bachelors degree in a quantitative field or equivalent experience.
• 10 years of experience with multiple data engineering/ETL ecosystems such as Palantir Foundry, Spark, Informatica, SAP BODS, OBIEE.
• Experience with multiple data engineering/ETL ecosystems.
• Proven track record of successfully implementing data warehouses/data lakes overpreviousfive years.
• Experience leading development teams.
• 3 years of experience in machine learning algorithm deployment and machine learning operations.

Desired:

• Experience as a technical lead.
• Experience in managing projects: delivery, timeline, roadmap design, and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience in Agile development.
• Very experienced in SQL and Python.
