Job Title: Immigrant Resource Center Program Assistant - Maui

Department: Immigration Legal Services

Reports to: Immigrant Resource Center Manager - Maui/Dep. Dir. Im. Legal Services

Summary: This is a full-time position that supports Immigration Services. The Immigrant Resource Center Program Assistant - Maui (IRC PC) provides assistance to recently arrived immigrants and refugees by gaining them access to legal, medical, social, educational, and other core social services. The IRC Program Assistant is involved with client intake for legal and social services, case management, and development of individualized service plans towards client self-sufficiency.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform intake and referral screenings;
  • Handle client case management and maintain case files, including data entry on immigration related case management software and timely follow-up on case needs;
  • Assist with office-related support and administrative tasks, including filing forms, maintaining office calendar, and organizing legal mail;
  • Prepare filings for family court, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Immigration Court;
  • Provide support for grant compliance, including data tracking and reports;
  • Participate in outreach functions;
  • Maintain and regularly updated log of contact with clients and client case statuses;
  • Communicate with clients to gather information and schedule appointments;
  • Coordinate with immigrant service providers;
  • Support Immigration Services team with other duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

  • Required high school diploma;
  • Preferred two years of prior or current experience providing support in an office setting;
  • Preferred 2 years prior or current experience working in a nonprofit organization;
  • Preferred experience in a community-facing setting working directly with immigrants;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred;
  • Capable of working in a bilingual/bicultural environment;
  • Competent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Products and ability to learn new technical skills and ability to learn database platforms;
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and to adapt when faced with internal or external barriers, or when faced with differing points of view;
  • Proficiency in tracking progress on multiple programs at one time to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to use good judgment and problem-solving skills, able to effectively respond to difficult situations and resolve conflicts;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, successfully complete tasks with limited supervision;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills with a willingness to learn about unfamiliar communities;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize scheduling, client service requirements, and other workload with effective time and task management skills to achieve program priorities;
  • Maintain detailed documentation of all client work;
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Provide timely follow up services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

COMPENSATION/HOURS

  • Hours: 19 hours per week with days and hours scheduled, Monday – Friday; some weekend and evenings may be required to meet client needs.
  • Location: 95 Mahalani St. Wailuku, HI 96793 and remote as necessary.
  • Pay rate: $22.00 - $26.00/hour, commensurate based on experience.
  • Benefits are not available for part-time employees under a 20-hour workweek.
