Legal Intern – Pacific Island Law, LLLC
Location: Big Island, Hawaii
Compensation: $20/hour with a minimum of 10 paid hours per week 5 unpaid mandatory training hours per week.
This internship will run from approximately May 13-September 2, with two two-week breaks (one break for summer fun, and one break for BAR prep!)

Position Overview:
Are you finishing up in law school and not sure what to do next? Have you heard the word “Associate” many times, but not sure what a trajectory to get there looks like? Well this is it, with Pacific Island Law, LLLC. Join our first ever Internship-to-Associate Cohort!
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Intern to support our team in various aspects of family law practice. This internship provides hands-on experience in legal research, case preparation, and administrative tasks within a dynamic law firm environment. At the end of the internship, provided you have successfully completed all the training, and passed the Bar Exam, we intend to make you a more permanent member of the team!
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on family law issues
- Assist in preparing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and correspondence
- Observe client meetings, mediations, and court proceedings (as permitted)
- Organize and maintain case files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality
- Support attorneys with trial preparation and case strategy discussions
- Perform general administrative duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Current law student or recent graduate with an interest in family law intending to practice law in Hawai’i.
- Strong research and writing skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
- Strong preference for individuals with ties to the big island or a willingness to relocate to the big island after the Bar Exam.
Internship Structure:
- Minimum of 10 paid hours per week at $20/hour. As your skills and experience increase, your hours may as well, if mutually agreeable.
- 5 additional unpaid mandatory training hours per week for skill development and mentorship
- Flexible work schedule to accommodate academic commitments
- The training program consists of a twelve-week course curriculum, spread out over sixteen weeks with two weeks of vacation and two weeks time off leading up to the bar exam.
- The program offers the opportunity to become an Associate Attorney within our firm upon successful completion of the internship program and successful passing of the Bar exam!
- Opportunity for Bar exam fee reimbursement with successful passing of the bar exam and a year commitment as an Associate with the firm.
