We’re actively seeking a talented Operations Project Team Manager to join our CMD Strategic Initiatives and Support team in Newport Beach, CA; Omaha NE or Lynchburg, VA.
This role is hybrid. We believe in empowering our employees to get work done both in and out of the office.
As an Operations Project Team Manager you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by leading a team of Project Analysts and their related interactions with Operations teams and divisional business partners. The manager oversees the staff’s daily activities, training, skill development and performance, striving to deliver both a stellar customer and employee experience.
How you’ll help move us forward:
Core Work Oversight
Demonstrates awareness of all active projects and their alignment with organizational goals.
Aligns Project Team and Operations partners to established project oversight methods, roles, and SLAs; Onboards new Operations Sponsors and supports their ability to take on related responsibilities.
Drives effective communication forums, ensuring Operations stakeholders understand organizational initiatives and impacts.
Monitors projects consistently, using findings and feedback to optimize processes and enhance service delivery.
Builds effective partnerships with external project teams (PMO, etc.); Project challenges impacting Operations are shared with Director and other stakeholders to be addressed.
Evaluates team workflow for efficiencies to maximize output.
Acts as Project Analyst for high-visibility initiatives, modeling project oversight to team.
Promotes the team as a professional career path within Operations.
Department Performance, Culture, and Development
Proactively develops and communicates short term (1-2 year) directional plan for department.
Accountable for building a cohesive, high performing team who meets established performance expectations; Develops a skilled, cross-trained talent pipeline for all staff, ensuring on-boarding, comprehensive department training, long-term career development, and performance management strategies are effectively executed.
Effectively cascades organizational objectives and information in a timely manner, helping teams positively understand and adapt to change; Ensures department fosters inclusion, positive morale, and strong working relationships.
Gathers 360° feedback from stakeholders re: all staff and provides well rounded feedback for individual development, including areas for developmental growth.
Staff meet established performance expectations for addressing customer needs, driving sound decisions and outcomes, overcoming obstacles, effective communication, meeting key deadlines, and ensuring documentation, adoption, and sustainability of outcomes.
Identifies trends impacting teams’ ability to meet performance objectives and ensures solutions are developed to address obstacles.
Development activities, check-ins and performance reviews for all department team members are completed thoroughly, following standards, by established timeframes.
Standards for promotions, merit, and annual reviews are clearly defined and equitably calibrated.
Conducts regular pulse checks to gauge staff engagement, challenges, and alignment; Staff are able to articulate understanding of objectives, purpose behind decisions, and their development opportunities and activities; Core themes are shared back with department leadership.
Self-Development
Meets target deadlines for personal check-ins and evaluations; Seeks material feedback from leadership and business partners to identify growth opportunities; Crafts meaning SMART goals to develop core Leader Attributes.
Remains current on organizational changes, industry direction, and project-related best practices to best support staff/department.
The experience you bring:
5 years of proven management experience (or demonstrated progressive leadership experience) within the financial services industry, preferably within a service-focused Operations environment.
4-year degree or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated drive and ability to motivate, develop, and direct multiple levels of employees to meet core departmental objectives and drive business goals.
Strong desire to deliver a stellar internal service experience.
Strong knowledge of annuity and/or life insurance products, workflows, and systems utilized to support those products.
Proven ability to successfully lead operations-scale projects, leveraging standard project methodologies.
Able to plan, lead and implement successful project outcomes within a team.
Ability to maintain strong organizational skills in a high-volume, fast paced environment under tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and ability to deal successfully with a variety of customers and stakeholders, overcome obstacles, and build consensus.
Strong critical thinking and judgement skills are critical to position, along with comfort using data to inform decisions.
