General Description:
The Advising, Admission, and Certification Coordinator supports admission, advising, and certification for the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs in the School of Education. This role involves creating academic plans, managing student records, collaborating with admissions, and ensuring compliance with teacher certification regulations, requiring a proactive individual dedicated to student success and meticulous adherence to educational standards. Reports to the Associate Dean of the School of Education.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Advising:
- Advise declared and intended education majors holding formal advising meetings during the year.
- Create individual academic plans for students.
- Serve as a resource regarding academic advising to faculty and staff.
- Work with Center for Student Success and Office of Admissions to identify interested students and provide opportunities and support for those students.
- Manage and document information on students of concern.
- Audit CAPP reports each semester to ensure students are meeting academic requirements.
- Maintain student folders, including recording grades and test scores.
Admissions:
- Collaborate with Graduate Admissions to support the admissions process using Slate application system.
- Coordinate with Graduate Admissions to ensure students receive education information and resources.
- Process and prepare application materials so they are in order for the School of Education process.
- Coordinate endorsement reviews for inquiries and applicants.
- Follow and ensure strict adherence to WAC pertaining to teacher certification.
Certification:
- Oversee the certification and endorsement process for all education certification programs.
- Evaluate certification files for completion of requirements.
- Complete program verification for alumni applying in other states.
- Review and approve pre-residency clearance applications in E-certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Effective problem solving and decision making in support of students and programs.
- Collaborative support for both internal and external campus constituents.
- Navigate Banner and Self-Service and Administrative reporting, university admission tracking systems, OSPI electronic systems.
- Commitment to working effectively with a diverse faculty and student body
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
- Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree.
- Finalist applicants must satisfactorily complete pre-employment background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College advising experience.
- Experience working in a college environment.
- Ability to navigate Google applications.
Work Conditions:
Some evening and weekend work is required to support program programming, such as orientations. Occasional travel to community colleges and partners as applicable.
