General Description :

The PLU School of Nursing is seeking full-time, non-tenure-track Simulation Educator, Clinical Instructor / Assistant / Associate Professor of Nursing for our Tacoma and Lynnwood campuses. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the prelicensure BSN, ABSN, and ELMSN (Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing) programs, with the possibility of limited teaching in the graduate program. This faculty position in the clinical teaching track involves teaching primarily in simulation with limited teaching in didactic courses, clinical courses, and lab courses.The PLU School of Nursing is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment. This position will be responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based learning experiences for nursing students in collaboration with the Simulation Center Director. This role ensures that simulation activities align with curriculum goals, competency-based education principles, and accreditation standards while fostering a realistic and effective learning environment. The Simulation Educator collaborates with faculty to integrate simulation into nursing coursework and supports students in developing clinical reasoning, technical skills, and professional behaviors. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs or the ABSN Program Coordinator, with ultimate accountability to the Dean of the School of Nursing. Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

  • Teach assigned simulations or courses, including theory, lab, and clinical as needed.
  • Evaluate simulation design and content annually for simulations assigned to teach.
  • Design, coordinate, and implement simulation-based experiences that align with the BSN curriculum, AACN Essentials, competency-based education principles, and healthcare simulation standards of best practice.
  • Collaborate with course faculty in implementation of simulation and clinical content of course.
  • Collaborate with course faculty in evaluation of students in simulation, lab, and clinical portions of assigned courses.
  • Communicate with students, staff, faculty and supervisors in a respectful and effective manner.
  • Communicate with the program leads and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Program or ABSN Program Coordinator regarding any questions, concerns, changes to ensure continuity of program outcomes.
  • Supervise and instruct students in simulation and other settings as assigned.
  • Participate in the SON committees as assigned, attend meetings and collaborate on committee activities.
  • Attend PLU University faculty assembly meetings.
  • Advise students as assigned
  • Participate in university service
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Simulation Development & Facilitation

  • Facilitate simulation sessions, including pre-briefing, scenario execution, and debriefing, ensuring an evidence-based, student-centered approach.
  • Operate and troubleshoot simulation equipment, including high-fidelity manikins, virtual simulation platforms, and task trainers.
  • Utilize standardized patients and role-play methodologies to enhance learning.
  • Adapt simulations to meet diverse student learning needs and address critical clinical competencies.
  • Collaboration & Curriculum Integration

  • Work closely with faculty to integrate simulation into didactic and clinical courses.
  • Assist in developing case scenarios, simulation objectives, and assessment rubrics.
  • Support faculty in utilizing simulation as a teaching strategy and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Participate in curriculum planning discussions, ensuring simulation aligns with program learning outcomes.
  • Assessment & Evaluation

  • Evaluate student performance in simulations using structured assessment tools and provide formative feedback.
  • Conduct programmatic evaluation of simulation experiences to measure effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain records of student participation, competency assessments, and simulation outcomes.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives for the simulation program based on student, faculty, and program feedback.
  • Technology & Equipment Management

  • Collaborate with simulation operations specialists to operate and troubleshoot simulation equipment.
  • Train faculty and students on the use of simulation technology and learning resources.
  • Stay current on emerging simulation technologies and best practices in nursing education.
  • Professional Development

  • Stay informed on trends and advancements in simulation-based education through continuing education, conferences, and professional networking.
  • Participate in scholarly activities related to simulation, including research, presentations, and publications.
  • Contribute to accreditation and regulatory compliance efforts related to simulation in nursing education.
  • Additional responsibilities include participation in department committees and meetings, contributing to program evaluation activities, engaging in university service, student advising, and supporting School of Nursing and University events such as orientation, pinning ceremonies, and graduation.   • Knowledge of patient simulation, technologies and applications.
  • Required Qualifications :

  • MSN or Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP).
  • At least one graduate or doctoral degree must be in nursing.
  • Hold unencumbered or be eligible for RN license in WA.
  • 3 years clinical experience in related area.
  • 2 years of experience in nursing simulation.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previous experience in education.
  • Experience in adult med-surg, obstetrics, or psychiatric nursing.
  • CHSE certification.
  • Work Conditions :

  • Physical Requirements :

  • Able to meet essential qualification to participate in student clinical rotations in any setting.
  • Able to move and manipulate simulation mannequins and equipment.
