General Description :
The Waste Diversion Supervisor (WDS) is responsible for long term planning and implementing to achieve PLU’s goal of greater than 90% diversion rate ae well as ensuring the daily operational needs for recycling, composting, landfill services are met.. The WDS serves as primary contact for Environmental Services as a provider regarding waste diversion efforts at PLU. This position is strongly operationally focused with large students staff and complex operation. Reports to the Campus Service Manager Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Waste Diversion customer service calls.
- Manage staff scheduling to ensure completion of daily operational needs.
- Attend weekly PLUSS (PLU Service and Support) meetings.
- Primary point of contact for external waste diversion service providers.
- Identify “best practices” and programs in peer / benchmark initiatives
- Coordinate and implement annual Recycle-Mania event and “Garbology” Waste Audit.
- Coordinate waste diversion efforts for move in and move out.
- Observe and refine operational processes to improve efficiency.
- Maintain the recycling bay in an orderly manner.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain and evaluate equipment for service and repair.
- Maintain and evaluate waste diversion infrastructure for service and repair.
- Stock required operational supplies.
- Facilitate education of the campus community about PLU’s waste diversion efforts.
- Pursue individual professional development around Waste Diversion and Zero Waste
programming in higher education.
