Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Press Operator to join our team at our metal stamping manufacturing facility. The Press Operator is responsible for producing stamped parts in punch presses that have been set up by a Set Up Operator. The Press Operator is also responsible for ensuring all quality and safety standards are followed.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the punch press has the proper tools installed.
- Position the materials being used on the machine and turn on the power.
- Press Operators monitor machinery for any problems during the production run. If there is an issue, operators are to consult with a Set Up Operator or Foreman who fixes the issue. After items have been produced, press operators ensure that they meet specifications by verifying their quality with the Set Up Operator and Inspector.
- Must follow work instructions. Read travelers to determine operation, quantity and inspection intervals.
- Press Operators may additionally clean the work area and parts. They must work safely to prevent on –the-job injuries, which includes wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection. Safety protocol also includes the use and adjustment of applicable pull backs, positive restraints and shields, and initialing safety confirmations on traveler routing steps.
- Detect malfunctions using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers or dial calipers, according to manufacturer’s specs. Communicate with Production Manager and other personnel for assignments, and to resolve machining or quality issues as well.
Education and Training, Physical Requirements:
- The Press Operator is required, as a minimum, to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The Production Manager can determine whether education and training are “equivalent” based on experience.
- Requires basic mathematical skills. These skills can be supplemented with on-the-job training.
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills, and be able to follow verbal and written instructions well.
- Must be able to stay on task while standing or sitting for long periods, and be adaptable to a changing work environment.
- Press Operators also must be open to being exposed to noise and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to perform repetitive motions and must have strong finger dexterity.
- Qualifications/Skills: General Math Skills, Traveler / Drawing Reading, Detail Oriented, Professionalism, Strong Attention to Detail and Follow Through, Strong Oral and Written Communication Skills, Able to Follow Verbal and Written Instructions.
Technical Requirements:
The Press Operator is required to read and understand information as it relates to job responsibilities. This includes procedures and documents that relate directly to the stamping processes. The Press Operator should also have the ability to interface with all company personnel.
