Maintenance and Security
Reports to: Center Director/Center Owner

Summary: To provide a loving, nurturing, safe, stimulating, Christian environment that promotes the social,
emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child and ensuring the safety of everyone who enter our
center.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Warmly greet families and employees providing a welcoming and friendly environment.
- Ensure proper visitor and parent check-in.
- Comply with operating licensing policies and center policies.
- Attend meetings and training as needed or required to enhance expertise and professionalism at Pacific
Northwest Early Learning Center and to fulfill job requirements.
- Inform Center Director and/or administration of any pertinent information regarding children, parents, or
other staff.
- Successfully complete all required trainings required by Washington State Department of Children, Youth,
and Families and Pacific Northwest Early Learning Center.
- Ensuring requirements are kept current and Merit is up to date to remain “legal” in a space.
- Seek supervision and remain open to supervisor’s suggestions.
- Sets professional goals and objectives.
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Maintenance:
- Facility Upkeep: perform regular inspections of the childcare facility to identify and address maintenance
issues including plumbing, electrical, and general building repairs. Changing filters out monthly
- Premise and Playground Maintenance: Daily ensure all outdoor play areas, parking lots, alleyways,
and sidewalks are safe, clean, and free of hazards, such as broken equipment or trash. After any
classroom outside time, ensure any toys left out are gathered.
- Furniture and Equipment: Repair, build, and maintain furniture, fixtures, and equipment used by the
children and staff, including child-safe furniture, and learning tools.
- Cleaning and Sanitation: Ensure that all areas of the facility are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained,
especially spaces where children eat, nap, or play.
- Hazard Prevention: Identify and eliminate any potential safety hazards within the facility, including but
not limited to: sharp edges, exposed wires, or toxic materials.
Security Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and Surveillance: Monitor the security of the facility through surveillance cameras and
alarm systems to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the safety of children and staff.
- Access Control: Oversee access control measures, including secure entry points and visitor management,
to prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the premises (ex. If person is not recognized ensure
you are meeting them out in the parking lot)
- Patrolling: Conduct regular patrols of the facility throughout the day, including outdoor areas, entrances
and alley ways, to ensure that all safety measures are in place and there are no security threats.
- Emergency Response: Respond immediately to security incidents or emergencies, such as suspicious
activity, unauthorized entry, or a child becoming missing, following established protocols.
- Safety Checks: Regularly inspect and maintain fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency exit routes and
monthly check first aid kits to ensure compliance with safety standards. Ensuring Fire Binder is kept up to
date and ready for review.
- Safety Training: Assist with staff training on emergency evacuation procedures, child safety, and
responding to security incidents, ensuring all employees are aware of safety protocols.
- Safety Inspections: Assist in ensuring the facility complies with all local childcare regulations (including
WACs and fire code) and health standards related to the safety and security of children.
- Closing the Facility: Be the last to leave the facility, ensuring that all children have been safely
picked up by their parents and that all staff have vacated the premises. Perform a final walk-through
of the entire facility (all classrooms, bathrooms, offices, hallways) to check for any safety hazards,
ensure all doors and windows are securely locked. Ensure all lights, equipment, and appliances are
turned off to maintain energy efficiency.
General Duties:
- Record Keeping: Keep accurate logs of maintenance work, safety inspections, security incidents, and
visitor access.
- Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with fellow employees and administration to address any safety
concerns or maintenance issues. Assisting with breaks and stepping into classrooms as needed. Assist
Shift Supervisors in responding to staff calls asking for any assistance or supplies are needed.
- Classroom Supply Delivery: Ensure supplies such as cleaning materials, toiletries, and any other necessary
items are regularly stocked and delivered to classrooms promptly.
- Daily Assistance: Respond to walkie calls when Shift Supervisor(s) are unavailable. Step in for teachers as
necessary/needed. Assisting students when time away in needed (outside or in the office)
- Additional Tasks: Assist with other facility-related duties as assigned by the administrative team, ensuring
a smooth and safe environment for everyone in the facility.
- Assist in Facility Projects: Support in larger facility improvement projects as required, such as building
equipment needed for classrooms.
- Fridays: Gather and take out all classroom and center trash.
- Ensure time off requests are handed in two Mondays prior to the requested days. Ensuring any days
wanting to leave early is cleared by Center Director. Any overtime must be approved by Center Owner
Physical Demands
Position requires mainly walking, standing, kneeling, and some occasional sitting. Ability to lift, carry and hold
children and infants. Lifting objects may be required (typically, weight does not exceed 100 lbs., may on occasion
be up to 150 lbs.) Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, and the ability
to adjust focus. Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to hear co-workers when working
on team projects or at meetings, the ability to hear young children in the classroom and/or on the playground.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
In accordance with WAC 110-300-0100(6) a lead teacher must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance or a related field, preferably within a childcare or
educational setting.
- Passed background check with fingerprints.
- Infant Child and Adult CPR and first aid
- Food handler’s permit
- 30-hour Basic Stars and additional 10-hours per year.
- Trainings through DCYF training
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 32 per week
