Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Modeling & Schema Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust data models and schemas to support complex scientific research projects. Ensure data integrity and reliability across multiple databases and data sources.
- Ontology Expertise: Apply environmental and biological ontologies to structure and integrate diverse datasets. Collaborate with domain experts to align data models with current scientific standards and practices.
- Programming & Software Development: Write clean, efficient, and reusable code in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, R). Develop and maintain software applications and tools that facilitate data analysis and visualization.
- Structured Data Management: Work extensively with structured data formats such as JSON and XML. Develop APIs and services for data exchange and integration.
- Database Management & ORM: Utilize Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) tools, particularly SQLAlchemy, to interact with relational databases. Optimize database queries and performance for large-scale datasets.
- Laboratory Process Integration: Understand and translate laboratory procedures and processes into data requirements and solutions. Collaborate with laboratory scientists to develop data workflows that enhance research efficiency.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work within interdisciplinary teams to support project objectives. Present findings and technical information to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
- MS/MA -OR-
- PhD
- Technical Skills:
- Proven experience in building data models and designing schemas.
- Familiarity with environmental and biological ontologies (e.g., GO, ECOCORE, ENVO).
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, with experience across various codebases.
- Strong understanding of structured data formats like JSON.
- Hands-on experience with ORM tools, especially SQLAlchemy.
- Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Scientific Background:
- Experience with the acquisition, processing, analysis, and integration of mass spectrometry data (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, or other organic matter)
- Experience or strong understanding of laboratory processes in environmental or biological sciences.
- Ability to integrate scientific knowledge with data solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
- Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Prior experience in a research or laboratory setting.
- Experience supporting mass-spec-based multi-omics integration
