HSPD-12 PIV Credential Requirement:
Shielded Facilities Operations is seeking a Nuclear Operations Technician Level 3. This level 3 position is for a skilled fully proficient journeyman level technician that has proven experience working safely and successfully with radioactive and hazardous material in and around a variety of environments including hot cells, fume hoods, glove boxes, bench tops and in radiological facilities. Work will support a wide range of research and development projects. Work will include operation of electromechanical manipulators in hot cells, analytical chemistry, decontamination of radioactive material, preventative and corrective maintenance of radioactive systems, radiological waste management, logging facility systems status, and working with a wide range of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Work requires precision in following written procedures and conforming to facility conduct of operations.

Responsible for “remote” and “hands-on” work with radioactive materials and systems to conduct and/or support a wide-range of research and development and related activities within hot cells, glove boxes, fume hoods, and on laboratory bench tops in the Radiochemical Processing Laboratory (RPL), a Category II, Non-Reactor Nuclear Facility. Conducts project and related work in the High-Level Radiochemistry Facility (HLRF) and Shielded Analytical Laboratory (SAL) hot cell complexes, and other hot cells which are located within the RPL. Operates in laboratory workspaces equipped with fume hoods and glove boxes used to conduct work with lower dose radioactive materials. Independently implements appropriate remote techniques to prepare a variety of radioactive materials/specimens for analytical and physical properties measuring and testing. Specific to hot cells, supports testing and radioactive operation of complex systems, equipment, and instrumentation. Other duties include recording facility systems status, decontamination of radiological components, supporting the conduct of preventative or corrective maintenance, and calibration of facility equipment and systems. Implements the requirements associated with Conduct of Operations, Criticality Safety controls, Radiological controls, and waste management of nuclear materials. Relevant work experience is defined as Hot Cell, Fume Hood, Glove Box, benchtop and/or radiological facility/field operations experience.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Technical Institute Graduate (TIG)/ AA or higher and 4 years of related experience -OR-
- High school diploma/GED and 6 years of related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experienced radiological worker with several years of hot cell, glovebox, and radiological fume hood operational experience.
- Proficiency in remote radiochemical operations, radiological waste management, and radiological contamination control.
- Experience in DOE National Laboratory setting.
Routinely works with radioactive and other hazardous materials and waste.
Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

- Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
