Overview

The Facilities & Infrastructure Operations Division is responsible for plant engineering, plant energy and utility operations, and facility operations for the South campus and leased facilities, North Campus and Infrastructure Operations, the Physical Science facility, and the 300 Area. In addition, the Division oversees campus infrastructure such as fabrication and craft services, duplicating and mail services, relocations, receiving, distributed services, and maintains operations of roads, grounds, and utilities for the campus.

Responsibilities

The 325 Radiological Process Laboratory (325RPL) Senior System Engineer is responsible for maintaining the configuration and operational state of the 325RPL systems, structures, and components. This role provides crucial technical expertise in engineering and configuration management for the 325RPL systems.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Prepare work planning documents in line with organizational work control procedures and DOE O 433.1, including necessary permits and the development of work steps and resource scheduling. Collaborate with system engineers to ensure appropriate work scope and post-maintenance testing.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of procedures for normal, abnormal, and emergency system operations, including surveillance procedures, predictive and preventive maintenance methods, and FMEA documents.
  • Maintain Maximo asset / component lists, equipment labeling, and key drawings.
  • Support the 325RPL Management Core Team to maintain a culture of technical excellence and leadership.
  • Perform short- and long-term scheduling of corrective and preventive work activities.
  • Conduct Periodic System and Program Assessments.
  • Provide daily direction to facility staff in areas such as building modifications, review of working documents (e.g., project planning documents, facility modification permits, engineering change notices), and verification of the operational status of building systems.
  • Qualify as a member of the Building Emergency Response Organization.
  • Assist ongoing construction projects to extend the operational life of the facility and serve as the primary system engineer for critical structures, systems, and components.

Additional Responsibilities :

  • Act as a resource for maintenance planning related to nuclear facility operations.
  • Use innovative methods to determine long-term scope, schedule, cost estimates, and input to 325RPL work planning.
  • Integrate operations and planning to support long-term nuclear facility operations.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams, identify high-risk issues, and develop solutions consistent with TSR and DSA guidelines.
  • Articulate strategic requirements for nuclear facility operations, requiring excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications :

  • BS / BA and 7 years of relevant work experience -OR-
  • MS / MA and 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Nuclear Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience, including a minimum of 4 years in DOE nuclear, commercial nuclear, or US Navy nuclear operations.
  • Knowledge of facilities engineering design, construction practices, building codes, and standards.
  • Expertise in DOE Orders on Facility Safety, Maintenance Management Program for DOE Nuclear Facilities, and Conduct of Operations.
  • Experience working in an NQA-1 environment.
  • Qualifications as a System Engineer, Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ) Evaluator, and / or Emergency Response Organization member.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Hazardous Working Conditions / Environment

    Special / Hazardous Working Conditions or Environment : This position requires Rad Worker II qualification, as it involves entry into radiological areas.

    Additional Information

    This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

  • Background Investigation : Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing : All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
  • Testing Designated Position

    This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.

    Security, Credentialing, and Eligibility Requirements

    In accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, new employees are required to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This investigation includes a declaration of illegal drug activities, including use, supply, possession, or manufacture within the last year. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.

    For foreign national candidates :

    If you have not resided in the U.S. for three consecutive years, you are not eligible for the PIV credential and instead will need to obtain a favorable Local Site Specific Only (LSSO) risk determination to maintain employment. Once you meet the three-year residency requirement, you will be required to obtain a PIV credential to maintain employment.
