Overview:
The Computing and Information Technology Directorate works to re-imagine how digital technologies can simplify the research experience, enable data-driven insights for decision makers, and accelerate PNNL’s research missions. CIT helps connect staff to systems while enabling a broader research computing ecosystem to improve productivity and provide a sense of community.

The Research Computing Division strives to be at the forefront of driving scientific discovery through cutting-edge computational tools and resources to ensure our talented scientists and engineers are equipped with the everything they need to accelerate groundbreaking research. From Web Development and High Performance Computing to Machine Learning environments, our Research Computing division is the backbone of innovative research.

We are seeking a new team member to join our Research Information Services team to help support the Information Release (IR) function and other Library core services. IR is a key institutional resource, providing an approval process for research outputs that are publicly released. It also provides tracking and reporting capabilities on those outputs and is critical part of the deposit pipeline for final manuscripts to go to the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) per DOE/PNNL contractual requirements.

We are seeking highly motivated, service-oriented individual for the role of Research Librarian to support the Information Release process. The selected candidate will play a significant role in supporting PNNL’s publishing goals and public access requirements. We are looking for someone with a genuine enthusiasm for working collaboratively, sharing knowledge, and delivering quality information services to help drive PNNL’s knowledge dissemination strategies, amplifying the reach and accessibility of our scientific endeavors. They will directly support our diverse research community who are authoring papers, depositing data, and sharing an array of other important scientific outputs, as well as those providing compliance functions. They will also provide training, assist in managing IR metadata and deposits to OSTI, and contribute to process enhancements. They will also have opportunities to work with other team members on supporting Library services overall.

Responsibilities:
  • Employ and share best practices for releasing PNNL research outputs, ensuring alignment with DOE public access requirements, PNNL policy, and organizational publishing goals.
  • Provide daily support for Information Release, including answering help requests, monitoring publisher copyrights in process, performing front-line troubleshooting, and creating documentation.
  • Assist in delivering PNNL content to DOE OSTI.
  • Participate in delivering targeted training sessions addressing needs of our community.
  • Provide specialized reports on content held in the IR system upon request.
  • Identify and help implement process improvements as needed.
  • Participate as part the Research Information Services Team to support the service desk and other tasks as needed.
  • Participate in Team communication activities, such as writing blog posts, posting content on the website, and sharing news items.
  • Promote and represent Research Computing, our group, and our teams across withing the lab and when representing PNNL in external professional venues.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BA or higher
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field.
  • Exposure to citation databases, scientific literature collections, citation management tools, and other platforms or services commonly used by researchers to find and manage information.
  • Detail-orientation, with a demonstrated understanding of bibliographic metadata and terminology/standards used in scholarly communication (ORCiD, DOI, Dublin Core, etc.)
  • Ability to deliver effective presentations to varied audiences, including researchers, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Awareness of practices in government organizations related to the proper release of information.
  • Basic awareness of current and emerging trends in open access publishing, open science practices, and other scholarly communication topics.
  • Basic understanding of scientific research processes and the ability to assist researchers navigating published scientific information.
  • Basic experience with reporting using excel and preferably tools like PowerBi, OpenRefine, etc.
  • Collaborative spirit, coupled with adaptability in evolving priorities and rapidly shifting technical environments.
