What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer position at Pacific Provisions Hawaii?
We are looking for a full-time Buyer for the following job duties:
- Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in correct amounts.
- Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories.
- Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time, and in the event of problems trace shipments and follow up undelivered goods.
- Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals and review requisitions for goods and services.
- Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in correct amounts.
- Monitor and follow applicable laws and regulations.
- Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
- Confer with staff, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action.
- Examine, select, order, and purchase at the most favorable price merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other factors.
- Analyze and monitor sales records, trends and economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns and determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is needed.
- Confer with sales and purchasing personnel to obtain information about customer needs and preferences.
- Track the status of requisitions, contracts, and orders.
- Performs other duties as needed.
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- General Office Equipment, Microsoft Office programs (e.g.: Word, Excel, Outlook), Internet.
- One to two years of wholesale purchasing experience required, experience in foodservice preferred, knowledge of food, food ingredients, non-food products (i.e. paper, foil, plastics), shipping and transportation knowledge preferred.
