Job Summary: The Senior Instrument Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing process control systems, instrumentation, and components for various projects. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing technical expertise. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in instrument engineering and possess strong problem-solving and project-management skills with on-site experience.
Responsibilities:
- Attend the design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for various industrial applications.
- Lead the selection, specification, and procurement of instrumentation and control equipment.
- Oversee the installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including process, electrical, and mechanical engineers, to integrate instrumentation solutions into overall system designs.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate instrumentation options and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
- Utilize advanced simulation and modeling tools to optimize instrumentation designs and improve system performance as needed.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in instrumentation technology and incorporate innovative solutions into projects.
· Ensure maintainability and long-term reliability in design to minimize downtime and optimize operational performance.
· Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate design. Review detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
· Oversee equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting to confirm systems are operational and meet performance specifications before the facility becomes operational.
· Develop and implement routine and preventative maintenance programs.
· Monitor equipment performance and diagnose failures using tools as well as reading machine trends.
· Diagnose and resolve issues during operations.
· Able to use site tools, measurement tools, health and safety equipment, and general office supplies. Able to use Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Microsoft Outlook.
· Strong knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC), experience with international/European codes and standards is preferred.
· Experience working with multinational teams is preferred.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- Oversee and mentor junior engineers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in instrumentation engineering.
- Proficiency in instrumentation and control software (e.g., PLC programming, SCADA systems) and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW).
- Strong understanding of process control, automation, and instrumentation principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Proven track record of successfully leading engineering projects from concept to completion.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
· Experience in value engineering as well as proactive and periodical maintenance of instruments.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods in an environment typical of an office setting.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time.
- Ability to walk and stand on uneven ground, including, wet, muddy, or icy conditions.
- Site visits to the construction site are required.
- Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for the task.
- Able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Work Environment
The work environment is typical of an office setting. Exposure to standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers, printers, fax machines, etc.) Offices are heated and air-conditioned, with noise levels typical of an office environment. This position will require onsite visits to construction, refinery, and cogeneration sites. Exposure to outdoor elements including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind. Sounds typical of a construction, refinery, or cogeneration site as well as exposure to construction machinery.

Total Compensation Range: $100,431.00 - $188,309.00

Compensation for roles at Pacific Soda varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Pacific Soda provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado.
