What are the responsibilities and job description for the FWS - AVID Tutor - Beaverton School District (CSWS) position at Pacific University?
This position is only open to current Pacific University Students with a Federal Work Study award.
AVID Tutors are needed in Beaverton middle and high schools during the school day (hours are anytime between 7:30am-3:30pm depending on your availability). Tutors will work in the AVID elective classes facilitating tutorial groups under direct supervision of the AVID Elective Teacher. School placement will vary depending on the school tutorial schedule and tutor availability. This position is located off campus in Beaverton.
AVID Tutors assist students to achieve their full potential by facilitating small tutorial groups that use questioning and collaborative learning techniques to help students develop answers to their questions on their own and by working with fellow students. You do not need to be an expert in a subject area to be a great tutor. We need tutors who can help the teacher organize groups, take notes, support students to ask questions of each other and attend regularly throughout the school year.
You will gain skills working with middle and high school age students, hands on classroom assistance experience, engage analytical and critical thinking, applied problem solving skills, oral and written communication, teamwork and leadership.
Qualifications
Required
Six hours of paid training is provided prior to the beginning of the position and ongoing support is provided throughout the year. Multiple training sessions are offered at a variety of locations throughout the school year.
Employment Length: November 25, 2024 - May 13th, 2025
Hourly wage: $15.95/hr

Qualifications
Required
- Act as a model of personal excellence and high expectations for the purpose of setting an example for AVID students to follow
- Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID Coordinator / Teacher for the purpose of providing information regarding progress and areas of concern
- Evaluate students' materials (binder, planner, notes, etc.) for the purpose of determining scheduled task completion and assignment's
- Examines student notes and discussion for the purpose of determining concepts that need to be taught or retaught
