This position is only open to current Pacific University Students.
Job Description
This position provides peer tutoring at the Center for Learning and Student Success (CLASS). Primary responsibilities include:
- Providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all students to work toward their academic goals with peer support.
- Working as a guide to assist peers with understanding course content.
- Assisting peers with adopting effective learning and study strategies.
- Preparing for and facilitating individual and group tutoring sessions in-person and/or online.
- Responding to short student questions by email about course content.
- Promoting CLASS services through class presentations and emails to students.
- Completing required tutor training, reading and responding to updates and communications from supervisor, and asynchronous assigned work throughout the year.
- Utilizing the tutor scheduling software to accurately schedule tutoring availability and Paycom to accurately input your timecards.
- Communicating with faculty to receive course content updates.
- Contributing to peer tutoring program’s success through adhering to CLASS policies and procedures, providing feedback to improve CLASS services, and participating in observations by supervisors.

In addition to completing the Paycom application, applicants must complete the CLASS Graduate and Professional Prof Peer Tutor Application - Course Interest form.

Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Satisfactory academic standing – grade of A or B in the courses to be tutored; faculty approval.
- Ability to tutor for multiple courses per term.
- Must be currently enrolled as a graduate or professional program student.
- Must be available to attend and complete required trainings.
- Availability to complete job responsibilities and tutor courses as described in the Program Specifics.
- Experience or interest in peer education and team building.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to model effective learning and problem solving strategies.
- Ability to solve problems collaboratively.
- Ability to provide meaningful feedback to peers.
- Highly dependable.

Onboarding & Training Requirements
- Onboarding: Approximately 2 hours of onboarding work to be completed within 2 weeks of hire.
- Training:
- Complete asynchronous Moodle (~5 hours) training by Sunday, June 29, 11:59 pm, PST
- Attend mandatory synchronous Zoom trainings:
- Tuesday, July 8, 6-8:30 pm, PST
- Tuesday, July 15, 6-8:30 pm, PST
