Position Summary:
The Mailroom Student Employee is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the university's mailroom. This includes sorting, processing, and delivering packages to various campus locations. The employee will primarily use a golf cart for package delivery, ensuring that packages are handled with care and delivered on time to the correct recipients. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Package Sorting: Assist with the sorting and organizing of incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
- Package Delivery: Operate a golf cart to deliver packages to faculty, staff, and student offices and residential areas across campus.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate logs of package deliveries, including collection of signatures or confirmation receipts when necessary.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by answering questions about mail delivery status, ensuring proper handling of packages, and assisting with package pick-up when required.
- Mailroom Assistance: Support general mailroom duties, including receiving and distributing packages, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, and managing package tracking systems.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure safe operation of the golf cart and adhere to all campus driving and safety regulations.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other mailroom staff and departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Current Enrollment: Must be a currently enrolled student at Pacific University.
- Valid Driver's License: Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
- Reliable and Punctual: Demonstrates punctuality, reliability, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Physical Stamina: Must be able to lift, carry, and deliver packages of various sizes and weights (up to 50 lbs.).
- Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately track, sort, and deliver mail and packages without error.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to interact with faculty, staff, and students in a professional and courteous manner.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a busy environment.
- Safety Awareness: Must adhere to campus safety standards when operating the golf cart and handling packages.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with package delivery or in a customer service role is a plus.
- Familiarity with Pacific University campus and buildings.
Working Conditions:
- Work hours may vary depending on department needs, but typically during regular business hours (8 AM - 5 PM, Monday through Friday).
- The position will require outdoor work, regardless of weather conditions, when delivering packages across campus.
