Job Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a key role in supporting construction, excavation, and earthmoving projects by safely operating a wide range of heavy machinery. This position demands expertise in operating bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, and other equipment to complete tasks like grading, digging, and material handling. The role also involves strict adherence to safety protocols and maintaining equipment. Extensive travel (including out-of-town job sites) is a core requirement of this position.

Duties
- Safely operate heavy construction equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, backhoes, and graders for excavation, grading, trenching, and material handling tasks.
- Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate equipment operation and project requirements.
- Conduct pre-operational checks, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure equipment functions properly and safely.
- Maneuver equipment through tight or confined spaces, working alongside crew members to meet project timelines and specifications.
- Monitor equipment performance and report any malfunctions or safety concerns to the maintenance team or supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment to promote safety and efficiency.
- Adhere to company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and environmental regulations to minimize risk to personnel, equipment, and surrounding ecosystems.
- Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and laborers to ensure seamless operations and effective use of equipment.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance tasks, and necessary repairs as needed.
- Travel to various job sites, including out-of-town locations, requiring flexibility and extended stays as part of the role.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, excavation, or earthmoving environments.
- Experience operating equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, graders, and backhoes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and grade stakes.
- Familiarity with equipment operation, limitations, and troubleshooting methods.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; CDL is a plus.
- HAZWOPER, OSHA 10, and other relevant certifications are preferred.
- Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness.
- Willingness to travel frequently and stay on-site for extended periods as required.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork.
