Job Purpose:
As a Production Supervisor at PWT, you will be responsible for overseeing the activities of an operating unit or department, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards. Your role will involve supporting corporate business objectives, fostering a positive work environment, inspiring the best from our people, and driving continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure safety, quality and production goals are met
  • Coordinate with other supervisors and managers on priorities and activities
  • Ensure company policies and safe operating procedures are followed
  • Develop and administer crewing, training plans and backup coverage plans for the shift
  • Ensure personnel needs are addressed appropriately
  • Ensure equipment and raw materials are properly set up and prepared to execute the production schedule
  • Work with other teams to ensure timely resolution of equipment issues
  • Prompt and fair handling of personnel issues per company policy
  • Manage tardiness, absenteeism, and vacations
  • Minimize time lost between jobs and at breaks and shift changes
  • Identify the training requirements of each crew member
  • Assist teams during large breakdowns and communicate status with management
Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Leadership:
    • Champion a Safety Culture: Model and enforce safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe work environment. Proactively identify hazards, develop SOPs, and work to eliminate risks.
    • Respond to Safety Incidents: Swiftly address and rectify safety violations. Ensure prompt documentation and communication of workplace injuries to the Safety Officer.
  • Team Development:
    • Foster Growth: Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Encourage Positive Attitudes: Create and maintain an environment that supports and inspires employees, facilitating open communication and promptly addressing concerns.
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Model Desired Behaviors: Demonstrate the attitudes and behaviors expected within the organization. Maintain confidentiality and promote alignment with organizational culture.
    • Manage Conflicts: Address and resolve conflicts effectively, ensuring a harmonious work environment and enforcing a harassment-free workplace.
    • Encourage Upward Communication: Facilitate clear and open communication from direct reports to management. Keep employees informed of key developments and company updates.
  • Situational Judgment and Problem Solving:
    • Make Informed Decisions: Apply strong problem-solving skills to make effective decisions under pressure. Balance safety, production needs, and resource management.
    • Handle Policy Violations: Address policy and behavioral violations promptly and fairly, ensuring adherence to organizational standards.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain Clear Communication: Convey information clearly and listen actively to team members and management. Provide timely updates and address concerns effectively.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the department. Support all corporate improvement initiatives.
  • Operational Support:
    • Supervise Production Employees: Manage daily work assignments, prepare work schedules, and oversee performance management.
    • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare reports and maintain records according to guidelines. Participate in cross-functional teams, such as production meetings and safety committees.
    • Assist with Budgeting: May assist in preparing and managing departmental budgets.

    • Safety and Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of safety and environmental requirements and commitment to enforcing safety protocols.

    • Organizational Abilities: Good time management, project management, and basic budgeting skills.
  • Experience:
    • Relevant Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred, with demonstrated problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • Working Hours:
    • Supervisors typically rotate with their crews on a 3-day on, 3-day off schedule, working 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am) that rotate monthly.
    • Supervisors should be prepared for flexible working hours, as crew assignments may change with minimal notice.
    • This role requires adaptability, including the potential for unexpected shifts and the need to work beyond the regular shift. Supervisors can expect to work over 45 hours per week.
