Position Details:
Paid Training Dates: March 31st - April 3rd & April 7th - 10th, 2025
Outdoor School Dates:
- April 30 - May 2, 2025
- May 6 - 9, 2025
- May 13 - 16, 2025
- May 27 - 29, 2025
- June 4 - 6, 2025
(Additional opportunities to work on other educational programs are available on alternate school days)
Compensation: $17 /hr DOE

About the Role:
Pacifica’s Outdoor School program provides 5th and 6th graders with immersive outdoor experiences. As an instructor, you will guide students through nature hikes, games, and ecological exploration, all while fostering a deep connection to the environment. You'll work closely with a teaching partner and engage with a group of 15-20 students during each 3-day session.
In addition to daily instructional activities, there are opportunities to lead evening programs and serve as an overnight chaperone. We also welcome instructors with specialized skills in creative electives (e.g., woodworking, art, or any other area of expertise).
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead outdoor learning experiences, including nature hikes, field studies, campfires, and student electives.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, creating meaningful connections with nature, peers, and themselves.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the unique needs of individual students, including social-emotional learning and community-building activities.
- Assist with overnight programs, ensuring the safety and well-being of students in a variety of outdoor settings.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A passion for working with children and the outdoors.
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting, traveling by foot across varied terrain.
- Willingness to undergo a background check.
- Experience as an educator or knowledge of ecology is preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team, adapting to diverse group dynamics and individual needs.
- Interest in or experience in creating equitable and inclusive educational environments.
