What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Counselor position at Pacifica Christian High?
The Academic Counselor is responsible for student support and assisting with the academic operations of the school. They will work as part of the Pacifica Christian Counseling Department and have a caseload of students to support academically, socially, and, emotionally. Additionally, they will work with the Associate Head of School in managing all administrative processes related to student counseling and academic guidance and partner with student life to support student events and activities such as prom, travel, homecoming, and graduation.
The ideal candidate is also mature in Christian faith, with significant, sustained investment in a local church community and a life rich in devotion and/or spiritual discipline. We expect all Pacifica employees to support our community-wide project to use academics, extracurriculars, and personal relationships as a means of grace to help all involved become more fully human in the recognition and restoration of the image of God within us.
Duties include:
- Act as a liaison between students, faculty, and parents to support the mission of the school and students in their social-emotional and academic growth.
- Personal/social and crisis counseling for a caseload of students
- Class program management, registration, and scheduling
- Event leading and support
- Manage accommodations and support of students with learning differences
- Maintain individual student academic records to include transcript checks, graduation evaluations, and ineligibility reports.
- Support discipline and attendance issues
- Support college counseling department events
- Partner with the Student Life Director to support events and activities by developing meaningful relationships with students outside of the counseling office

Additional responsibilities:
- Participation in after-hours or overnight campus events such as the all-school retreat, open house, student life events, and graduation
- Manage counseling programs and incorporate creativity and current counseling techniques to develop a comprehensive school counseling program
- Abide by the guidelines stated in the employee handbook and be consistent in applying the policies of the school as stated in the student handbook and curriculum guide.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate will be a relational expert and may have experience in youth ministry or an academic setting and have a degree(s) in counseling, school psychology, or M.Ed
