We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of:
RECREATIONAL THERAPIST / BEHAVIORAL HEALTH UNIT
The RECREATIONAL THERAPIST is an integral member of the interdisciplinary patient care team responsible for therapeutic procedures and programs to maintain and/or restore patient’s physical, psychological, intellectual and social capabilities. The RECREATIONAL THERAPIST directs patient participation in selected activities such as games and social activities to create an atmosphere of sociability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitates initial and ongoing assessment; provides group and individual treatment interventions; coordinates care objects in collaboration with the patient care team.
- Evaluates and assesses patient needs relative to gross motor coordination, group behavior, interpersonal relationships, and proficiency in various recreation and leisure activities.
- Establishes treatment objectives and determines modalities by which they can be achieved.
- Implements a range of individual and group recreation activities based upon the evaluation and treatment objectives.
- Maintains records and makes written and oral reports concerning patient care and treatment.
- Maintains current information on community resources and assists patients in the process of post-hospital integration.
- Creates an environment that allows the patient to explore his/her own potential, cultivate positive moral and minimize distress of illness.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy or related discipline.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTST) preferred
- One (1) year experience in a mental health or related setting preferred. New graduate eligible for certification may be considered.
- Current American Heart Association (BLS) certification.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to exercise professional judgement in performing day-to-day activities, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures
