Responsibilities
As the Journeyman Lineman Transmission, you will install, maintain, and repair all transmission and distribution electrical systems and associated equipment.
Requirements
- Must be a current Journeyman Lineman.
- Must be able to proficiently operate track mounted transmission equipment, 150' bucket truck, transmission puller and associated line equipment, as required.
- Must be NCCCO crane certified, or industry equivalent certification. Must have a valid card or be registered to complete the class within one year of acceptance into the job classification. (The crane certification class and testing are performed by an outside contractor. The crane certification requirement is extended due to contractor availability).
- Knowledge of the various types of transmission conductors - such as high temp, self-dampening, and fiber optic conductors.
- Knowledge of transmission rigging, such as conductor dead-ending, bundled conductors, and moving hot conductors.
- Knowledge of equipotential grounding for transmission systems.
- Knowledge of resident ground switches and their application.
- Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of transmission switches.
- Knowledge of safe working practices on various transmission voltages utilized by the Company.
- Working knowledge of Pacificorp transmission standards including structure framing types and standard conductors, etc.
- Working knowledge of how to read and understand manufacturer drawings for steel, fiberglass structures, etcWorking knowledge of what is presented and delivered in an Issued for Construction (IFC) job packet from transmission engineering.
- Basic knowledge of foundations, embedment depths, caisson foundations and drilled piers.
- Basic knowledge of appropriate methods to sag conductor based on company standards, sag charts, and tensions.
- Working knowledge of clearances (OSHA working clearances and NESC clearances)..
- Knowledge of Right of Way (ROW) best practices (access, project setup for pulling, construction easements, permanent easements, customer contact/relationships, underground locates, etc.).
- Working knowledge of Underground Transmission Termination Structures.
- Working knowledge of other shield wire types and communication conductors OPGW, ADSS, EHS, Splicing, and lightening protection.
- Understanding of equipment, material, and handling of that material.
- Knowledge of guys, anchor types, and anchor installation and best practices.
- Working on and around energized lines and best practices.
- Preference will be given to a qualified Transmission Lineman over a potential trainee.
- All new Journeyman Linemen without prior Journeyman Lineman Transmission experience will enter the department as a Journeyman Lineman Transmission Trainee. They will be provided eighteen (18) months of transmission specific on the job training to develop proficiencies in the job duties. Employees will be expected to satisfactorily complete the transmission lineman training workbook and obtain signatures from the Transmission Working Foreman, General Foreman PD - Transmission, and Manager.
- Upon successful completion of the eighteen (18) month training period, and completion of the transmission lineman training workbook, the Transmission Lineman Manager will notify, by email, the Transmission Lineman Subcommittee. The employee must past a verbal and practical test completed by the Transmission Lineman Subcommittee. The employee will then be awarded through automatic reclassification, the Journeyman Lineman Transmission position and rate of pay.
- With prior and verifiable Transmission Lineman experience, an expedited completion of the training program, with demonstrated transmission proficiencies, may be approved through recommendation of the Subcommittee.
- Employees not in the bid Transmission classifications will not be eligible for upgrades into any of these job classifications listed above.
