Function and Scope
Ensure proper receipt and recording of scale, quality, storage and disposition of all wood fiber received at the DeRidder Mill.
Duties And Responsibilities
Accurately weigh and scale wood fiber trucks, and any other trucks entering the DeRidder mill scales, while insuring proper documentation, wood quality, safety policies, and SFI compliance.
Maintain security at the scale house by following security policy and controlling entrance and exit to the mill.
Perform routine maintenance on all scale house equipment and maintain good housekeeping in and around the scale house.
Perform and accurately record chip analysis, fuel moisture content analysis, and ash content analysis.
Monitor rail scales and communicate with railroad personnel.
Monitor truck-unloading time. Communicate with wood yard personnel to maximize truck unloading time and direct trucks to proper locations in the mill to aid in improving this time.
Accurately measure and monitor wood fiber inventories in the mill on a daily basis.
Communicate any unusual wood flow, security or safety problems to the Mgr., Fiber Procurement Operations.
Supervision and Leadership Exercised
This position has no direct role as supervisors.
Reporting and Accountability Relationships
Scalers report directly to the Mgr., Fiber Procurement Operations. They are also accountable to the various mill departments such as safety, security, and accounting since the scale house is located in the DeRidder mill.
Decision Making Authority
Decisions are made based on policies, procedures and guidelines from the Mgr., Fiber Procurement Operations. Scalers often work alone without supervision and deal with many varied and unusual problems. Any deviation from policy must be recorded and reported to the scale house supervisor (Mgr., Fiber Procurement Operations).
Business Contacts
Internal – wood yard personnel, accounting department personnel, security personnel, H. R. personnel, maintenance personnel, Mgr., Fiber Procurement Operations and other procurement personnel.
External – numerous wood fiber contractors and their personnel, maintenance contractors, public safety personnel, railroad personnel and the general public.
