SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Lead Gluer Operator is responsible for overseeing the operation, efficiency, and quality of the gluer machine while ensuring production goals are met. In addition to leading the crew, this role involves estimating production speeds, managing belt inventory, and maintaining all gluing equipment and glue guns. The Lead Gluer Operator plays a crucial role in optimizing production processes, troubleshooting issues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Coordination:
- Lead and coordinate the gluer crew, ensuring efficient workflow and production.
- Train and mentor machine operators and assistants on best practices and safety protocols.
- Communicate production goals, expectations, and any process changes to the team.
Machine Operation & Quality Control:
- Set up, operate, and adjust the gluer machine according to job specifications to ensure minimal waste and maximum efficiency.
- Monitor product quality, inspect for defects, and make necessary adjustments.
- Ensure all production meets customer specifications by conducting regular quality checks.
- Utilize testing equipment for quality assurance in corrugated and folding/gluing processes.
Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management:
- Maintain and troubleshoot all gluing equipment and glue guns to ensure optimal performance.
- Manage and track belt inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels to prevent downtime.
- Work with the maintenance team to schedule and perform preventative maintenance on all related equipment.
Production Estimation & Efficiency Improvement:
- Assist in estimating production speeds to optimize scheduling and meet production targets.
- Identify areas for improvement and assist in implementing lean manufacturing and 5S principles.
- Support continuous improvement efforts to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.
Compliance & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records for production, quality control, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.
- Report any operational issues or inefficiencies to management and suggest solutions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, dust, noise, fumes, and moving machinery.
- Requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and repetitive hand movements.
- Frequent handling of up to 25 lbs.
POSITION TYPE & EXPECTATIONS
- Full-time role with required flexibility in shifts and overtime as needed.
- Must be available for 12-hour shifts and adjust to variations in work schedules.
Qualifications
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK/OTHER DUTIES:
This is a full-time position with minimal flexibility in work schedules/hours, but the employee should generally be available during the “core” work hours and for 12 hour shifts Monday-Wednesday 4:45p-5:00a and must agree to variation in work schedules/hours, all duties as assigned, and all overtime. EDUCATION, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3-5 years of experience operating gluer machines, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to train and develop team members effectively.
- Experience with equipment maintenance and inventory management.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, GMP, and lean manufacturing principles.
