Custodians perform daily routines and periodically scheduled tasks as well as special projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead Custodial operations to provide a clean, safe, and inviting facility
Schedule custodial staff
Plan projects in advance and work with custodians to accomplish them in addition to daily tasks
Work collaboratively with vendors, contract operators, and others
Purchase, track, and maintain Custodial stock, chemicals and equipment
Assist the Director of Facilities in budget preparation and tracking costs
Wear proper protective equipment at all times
Vacuum, sweep, mop, clean carpet (using both powered and hand vacuums and or small extractors) and carpet extraction, buffing
Clean and sanitize bathrooms and restock supplies
Empty all trash cans and replace liners
Handle recycling material
Must wash, clean and dust walls, railing, glass and stainless steel
Maintain supplies and equipment in clean and operable condition within individual service closets
Carry out periodic special cleaning functions
Assist in updating the maintenance log on a timely basis with items for Facilities staff to repair or replace.
Interact and communicate as needed with other department staff and guests.
Lead in action as well as words; setting the pace for others and providing an example of working effectively, efficiently, responsibly and safely
Adhere to, participate in and promote Pacific Science Center employment policies, operating principles, events and culture.
Other duties as needed.
Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of:
Previous knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment usage, and work safety preferred
Understanding of excellent customer service best practices
Skills:
Capacity to follow oral and written instructions and ability to read chemical labels and proper application of those chemicals; capacity to carry on verbal conversation and communicate with staff and guests
Computer skills
Smartphone/tablet skills
Ability to:
Lead a team by example.
Supervise a team of 5
Create and maintain staff schedules.
Ability to operate various types of custodial equipment including but not limited to: riding sweepers, riding extractor, buffers, walk behind vacuum sweepers and hand vacuums
Ability to work independently in absence of supervision; effective team contributor and member
Demonstrate leadership and collaborative communication skills
Ability to work flexible schedule that may include deviating workdays and hours from the assigned primary work schedule
Qualifications
Required
Two or more years of related custodian and housekeeping work experience preferable in a public work environment setting
At least 1 year Supervisory experience
Must pass required criminal background check
Dependable and reliable mode of transportation
Previous work experience in a team-oriented setting or team-oriented work
Desired
Experience operating ride-on Vacuum Machines, scrubbers, and buffing machines a plus.
