Job Overview:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the fund and assisting in the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial records. This position requires an individual with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to ensuring financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the general ledger, including recording financial transactions, preparing journal entries, and ensuring accuracy in financial data.
- Bank and Investments: Assist with reconciling and posting entries for monthly bank and investment statements.
- Payroll Support: Assist in payroll processing by ensuring accurate calculations for staff, including, deductions, and benefits contributions.
- Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements. Ensure compliance with union regulations and applicable accounting standards.
- Tax Compliance: Assist with the preparation and filing of required tax returns (e.g., payroll taxes, sales taxes, etc.) in line with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Audit Support: Provide support during audits by preparing requested documentation, reviewing financial records, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory standards.
- Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other accounting tasks and administrative duties as required by the controller.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Experience: At least 1-2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a unionized environment or similar setting.
- Skills: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar platforms). Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and practices. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of payroll systems, tax compliance, and/or ISSI a plus.
Other requirements:
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality.
- Knowledge of union regulations, labor agreements, and collective bargaining agreements is desirable.
