POSITION SUMMARY :
The Peer Mentor plays a vital role in supporting the educational and personal success of students at the Learning Center. Working within the context of a Native tribal community, the Peer Mentor serves as a role model, tutor, and guide for students, fostering academic achievement, cultural pride, and personal growth. The ideal candidate is passionate about education, community engagement, and empowering others to reach their full potential. This position is grant-funded until 2029. There is no guarantee of employment past this date.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide one-on-one and group mentoring to students, helping them navigate academic challenges and set personal and educational goals.
- Offer guidance on study habits, time management, and strategies for overcoming obstacles.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating respect for tribal values and cultural traditions.
- Support students in specific subject areas, including math, reading, writing, and science.
- Assist students with homework, projects, and test preparation.
- Collaborate with Learning Center staff to implement tutoring strategies tailored to individual needs.
- Participate in cultural events and activities to strengthen ties between the Learning Center and the community.
- Encourage students to explore their heritage and embrace their cultural identity in their educational journey.
- Contribute ideas and feedback to enhance Learning Center programs and services.
- Assist in organizing workshops, study sessions, and enrichment activities that promote student success.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and mentoring sessions.
- Report challenges and successes to the Learning Center Coordinator.
- Help ensure the Learning Center remains a welcoming and productive space for all students.
