Lake Compounce - Full-time HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) Director
Roles & Responsibilities:
The position involves spending approximately 66% of the time within the year supporting the development and implementation of sustainability and environmental strategies, policies, training, and reports across all Palace Entertainment parks and facilities. The remaining 33% is dedicated to leading the development, implementation and maintenance of park Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system. This system must align with applicable Parques Reunidos HSE standards and federal, state, and local requirements and ensuring compliance with all applicable legal and Parques Reunidos HSE requirements within the designated park.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Supervisory Duties:
- Manage all aspects of the HSE and any other assigned departments
- Exemplify the Total Safety culture and work ethic established by the leadership team Lead by example, attitude, and as a representation of Lake Compounce’s core values
- Act as an approachable mentor and coach to all assigned team members
- Manage and control all financial aspects of assigned departments while maximizing revenue and cost savings opportunities; maintain constant vigilance over departmental spending and budgets
- Act as a strategic visionary to implement measures that will favorably impact process, people, and/or profit
- Ensure compliance with company and industry best practices, policies, and procedures to create a safe and productive environment for colleagues and guests.
- Become knowledgeable of performing the essential duties of all HSE positions and backfill these positions when needed
- Participate in all aspects of supervision of assigned employees, including hiring, orientation, training, performance coaching, and discipline.
- Ensure that all required meal and other breaks are being given in accordance with Connecticut law
- Assist with team scheduling and timekeeping activities
Departmental Duties:
- Develop, implement, and monitor park-level processes and methods needed to attain Parques Reunidos sustainability goals at all Palace Entertainment parks and facilities.
- Collaborate with all park HSE Directors and General Managers and act as subject matter expert, to assist in the development of Parques Reunidos and Palace Entertainment sustainability standards.
- Collaborate with all park HSE Directors and General Managers to determine optimal methods for compliance with environmental and hazardous waste requirements.
- Develop, implement and monitor the park HSE management system at assigned primary and ancillary parks.
- Develop and update park HSE procedures and instructions to prevent injury to workers and guests to prevent environmental or property damage at primary and assigned ancillary parks.
- Incorporate Parques Reunidos HSE standards and local legal HSE requirements into park procedures and training at primary and assigned ancillary parks.
- Support Park leadership team in the deployment and delivery of Parques Reunidos HSE standards and procedures at primary and assigned ancillary parks.
- Provide expertise to park management team on HSE topics, including but not limited to local HSE legislation, risk assessment, and preventive and protective measures, emergency management, incident reporting, PPE, safety coordination of suppliers and contractors, audits and inspections, waste management, identification and evaluation and monitoring of environmental impacts.
- Encourage and promote commitment by the park management, staff, suppliers, and contractors to Parques Reunidos HSE values and requirements.
- Conduct ongoing proactive risk assessments, together with park management team and other relevant stakeholders, to identify and minimize potential risks in all aspects of park operations.
- Act as liaison with the Health, Safety and Environment representatives of contractors and suppliers to ensure alignment and compliance with Parques Reunidos expectations.
- Perform self-audits and inspections at primary and assigned ancillary parks to verify compliance with HSE standards, procedures and applicable local HSE regulations. Carry out the controls and checks needed to ensure that products and services provided by the park(s) meet the applicable HSE standards and regulations. Reports findings and recommendations to park management and/or the Palace Entertainment Regional Director of HSE.
- Perform HSE cross-audits in other parks of the group, acting as lead auditor or support auditor, as per Parques Reunidos HSE Audit Program as assigned.
- Ensure that equipment, including maintenance equipment, amusement devices, attractions, and rides meet applicable industry standards, as defined by local regulations, applicable ASTM, Parques Reunidos, and Palace Entertainment standards at primary and assigned ancillary parks.
- Design, implement, and execute HSE related training programs for employees as needed.
- Develop and implement emergency response procedures, including planning and coordination of drills/exercises and training, as applicable at assigned and assigned ancillary parks.
- Investigate HSE related incidents to determine causes, prepare incident reports, perform trend analysis, and recommend remedial and preventive actions.
- Provide guidance and support to assist HSE team members at assigned ancillary parks to ensure timely and accurate incident investigation, reporting and analysis.
- Monitor and confirm completion of follow-up actions for HSE related findings arising from audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory or Parques Reunidos requirements.
- Prepare periodical HSE performance reports and provide park management with results.
- Identify weaknesses and deficiencies in the park HSE management system and recommend corrective actions to park management.
- Oversee the timely and accurate completion of Parques Reunidos Sustainability Reports for all Palace Entertainment locations.
- All other duties assigned by leadership.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree of Health & Safety, Emergency Management, Engineering, Sustainability, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline is highly desired; Equivalent work experience will also be considered
- 3-5 years of previous safety or environmental experience highly desired
- 3 years of previous supervisory experience, preferably in a health and safety setting
- Working knowledge of federal and state safety/environmental regulations and requirements.
- Previous hospitality, amusement park, theme park, or waterpark experience preferred
- EMT Certification in the state of Connecticut preferred but not required
- NREMT (preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified
Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

- Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Connecticut Child Labor Laws
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to regularly work hours that extend beyond 9am to 5pm
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
- Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, NFPA and Life Safety Codes is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to effectively manage and optimize HSE systems and processes

- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.
