This position also trains and maintains animal behavior and husbandry techniques for demonstrations.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for wildlife and lead a team of animal care professionals by giving clear directives, proper training, and effective mentoring. This candidate will also ensure a professional and safe environment for animals, employees and all park guests.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct the day-to-day activities for a team of animal care professionals.
- Act as an approachable coach and mentor to less experienced team members.
- Trains team members on how to safely and successfully perform their job duties, to ensure the best quality care possible to all wildlife
- Participates in coaching, counseling, performance appraisal, and write up sessions for team members who face escalated disciplinary action
- Audits the daily operations of the team to ensure that all animal care policies and procedures are being followed
- Carry out the basic functions while ensuring the health and safety of the animals, employees and guests.
- Oversees and teaches less experienced staff proper husbandry procedures, training methods, safety guidelines and show performance and quality.
- Ability to proficiently perform all duties of all Animal Trainer positions.
- Ensures top quality care and attention for the well-being of each animal.
- Assists with proper staffing of animal areas through effective scheduling.
- Assists with timekeeping for hourly team members.
- Assists management with coordinating and preparing reviews of departmental employees.
- Develops and implements new animal procedures as directed by departmental management.
- Recognizes and reports to management potential behavior problems and implements a plan to correct.
- Successfully acclimates and trains new animals.
- Implements and carries out daily animal sessions in accordance with the direction of departmental management.
- Satisfactorily performs all primary roles in education and general public presentations.
- Becomes knowledgeable of animal handling, restraint and transport.
- Makes daily observations of animals and reports any abnormalities to management.
- All other duties as assigned by park leadership

Executive Presence: Represent the Company well internally and externally; convey a professional and positive image of the organization and business affiliates
Flexibility: Handle multiple priorities simultaneously; maintain a flexible work schedule to meet changing demands for multiple concurrent projects
Initiative and Adaptability: Take initiative and execute plans to accomplish strategic objectives in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Languages: Fluent English. Bilingual in Spanish or other native languages a plus
Education & Experience:
- 3-5 years of previous animal care or training highly desired. ( Example: former Animal care and training internship(s), animal care volunteering in zoo’s or aquariums, seasonal or past full time work within the animal care or training field)
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Equivalent work experience will also be considered
- College degree in Biology, Marine Biology, or a related discipline highly desired
- Proficient in the areas of animal health, natural history and husbandry techniques.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work flexible hours that extend beyond 9am to 5pm
- Must possess effective communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas and concepts to students, park guests and leadership.
- Ability and knowledge to provide exceptional care to all wildlife
- Strong leadership and employee motivations skills
Working Conditions:
- Subject to a variety of weather conditions, including but not limited to extreme heat, humidity, sun exposure, wind, cold, and inclement weather.
- Ability to interact and be close to a variety of wildlife without fear or uncomfortableness
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand or walk for extended period of times
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel or reach above shoulder level
- Ability to lift and carry varying weight (10-30 lbs)
