The Palace Performing Arts Center:


We are a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that takes a leadership role in making arts & culture available in the Capital City and surrounding region. PPAC operates the historic Palace Theatre, a 2,800-seat grand cultural and entertainment venue, the largest of its scale in Northeastern New York and neighboring New England. The Palace Theatre, built in 1931, maintains its original beauty and design and is an historical landmark in the City of Albany. Each season, PPAC ensures that the Palace Theatre plays host to some of the most prolific artists and beloved shows touring today. Capital Region audiences are treated to a broad array of entertainment, including the best in concerts, stand-up comedy, classical performances, films, community events and more. 


We are recruiting to fill the position below:


Part-Time Maintenance Custodian & Event Porter

3-5 Days Per Week; Non-Exempt

 

(Event Porter: a person who does routine cleaning)


Position Summary:


Under supervision, perform custodial duties to include overall building and grounds maintenance. Flexible availability is a plus.


Reports to:


Director of Facilities & Facilities Assistant


FLSA Status:


Non-Exempt; Hourly (Minimum Wage)


Qualifications:


·      High School diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience working in desired field.

·      Ability to read, write and communicate effectively; Basic computer skills are preferred.

·      Non-profit experience a plus; A strong preference will be given for someone who has operated in a fast growing environment with limited budgets and resources.

·      Must be a team player, but able to work independently.

·      Excellent customer service skills.

·      Ability to negotiate and collaborate; Must work effectively with full/part time staff, volunteers, vendors, patrons, and service contractors.

·      Strong work ethic with a professional, resourceful style.

·      Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at one time.

·      Prioritization skills with high level of productivity, accuracy, and quality.


Responsibilities:


1.    Cleans, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors by hand or machine; cleans carpet, upholstery and furniture.

2.    Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls and ceilings.

3.    Stocks needed materials and supplies.

4.    Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms, dusts and vacuums rooms, locks and unlocks doors; moves equipment and furniture.

5.    Collects and disposes of waste, shovels snow, maintains outside sidewalks, and assists in keeping outside premises in an orderly fashion.

6.    Mows and fertilizes lawn, plants, and maintains flower beds, irrigates and maintains irrigation system. Trims trees and sprays for insects.

7.    Setting up and taking down tables and chairs for programs.

8.    This is a hybrid position with some hours worked during the day prepping/cleaning before events and then Portering during shows.



Physical Demands:


·      The employee will often stand; walk, reach with hands and arms, and frequently climb stairs.

·      The employee will frequently be required to talk and hear.

·      The employee will regularly use their hands to finger; handle, feel, and/or type.

·      The employee will be required to lift more than 50 pounds.

·      Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision.

·      This is a physical position which may require the ability to bend or twist the body, as well as time, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and/or reaching.

·      Occasional use of ladders or scaffolds and the ability to climb them.

·      Special purpose telephones or radios

·      Vacuum cleaner with attachments, Microfiber Towels, Toilet brush, Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Broom, Dust pan & brush, Dry mop, Wet mop & bucket, Latex gloves, Wet floor signs. Various cleaning agents, Window cleaner, Disinfectant cleaner, Bathroom cleaner, Furniture polish, SOS pads, Microfiber Dusters.

·      Drain and/or pipe cleaning equipment

·      Power tools such as drills, snowblowers or lawn mowers

·      General tools, such as hammers, wrenches and screwdrivers
