What are the responsibilities and job description for the Self-Contained Special Education Teacher position at Palestine-Wheatley School District?
JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program for students with significant disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. The Self-Contained Special Education Teacher provides individualized academic, behavioral, and life skills instruction to meet the unique needs of each student. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal and in collaboration with the Special Education Director.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
*Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students in accordance with state and federal laws.
*Plan and deliver individualized instruction designed to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
*Provide instruction in life skills, functional academics, and behavior management as appropriate to the needs of students.
*Use specialized strategies, accommodations, and modifications to address students’ unique learning needs.
*Manage and address significant behavioral challenges, implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as needed.
*Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists) to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
*Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment.
*Monitor and document students’ progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
*Maintain accurate and complete records for compliance with legal and district requirements.
*Participate in IEP meetings, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) development.
*Utilize assistive technology and other relevant tools to support instruction and student learning.
*Supervise and collaborate with paraprofessionals or classroom aides to support student needs.
