What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at Palestine-Wheatley School District?
JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program for students with special needs in an elementary or secondary learning environment. The Special Education Teacher works to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their academic and social-emotional potential while ensuring compliance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and district policies. Work is performed under the supervision of the principal and in collaboration with the Special Education Director.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
*Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students in accordance with state and federal laws.
*Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
*Use specialized strategies, accommodations, and modifications to support student learning and inclusion.
*Collaborate with general education teachers to support students in the least restrictive environment.
*Monitor and assess students’ progress, updating IEPs as necessary.
*Manage student behavior by implementing effective behavioral interventions and strategies.
*Maintain accurate and complete records for compliance with legal and district requirements.
*Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings with parents, administrators, and other professionals.
*Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and administrators about student progress, challenges, and needs.
*Use relevant technology and assistive devices to enhance instruction and support students’ needs.
*Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
*Conduct assessments to determine students’ needs and measure academic and behavioral progress.
*Support students’ social-emotional growth and development through targeted instruction and positive reinforcement.
