A Licensed Practical Nurse and/or Certified Operating Room Technician who assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients. Functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Satisfactory completion of an approved Operating Room Technician course and/or a graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing with current NJ licensure.
- Minimum of one year Operating Room experience.
Contacts:
- Regular contact with medical personnel and its visitors.
Working Conditions:
- Works indoors in well lighted and ventilated rooms.
- Possibility of cuts or minor burns from instruments and equipment.
- Some direct exposure to contagion and fumes from chemicals but risk is minimal when proper safety precautions are observed.
- Possibility of strains due to moving patients, equipment and instrumentation.
Physical Demands:
- Constant standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, lifting, pulling, pushing, turning and occasional sitting.
- Frequently lifts objects from 1-150 lbs., frequently carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Frequently lifts with assistance, objects greater than 150 lbs. and pushes objects up to 200 lbs.
Mental Demands:
- Manage time appropriately to meet patient and department needs.
Equipment Operated:
- Knowledge of function and ability to operate Fiber Optic Equipment: Lab chole, video, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, endoscopy. Drills; ortho, ortho-equipment general, autoclaves, washer sterilizers, microscopes ¿ENT, knowledge of laser.
- Knowledge of care and handling of instrumentation realizing that improper care and use are extremely costly.
- Ability to operate other work related equipment such as telephone, copier, fax machine etc.
