Maintenance and Controls Engineer Job Description:
The Maintenance and Controls Engineer is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining control and electromechanical systems. They will identify areas of improvement and design and install updates to process and facilities equipment.
This position reports to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager and is part of the Maintenance Department located in Putnam, CT, with an on-site role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and resolve electromechanical and PLC/HMI system issues using diagnostic techniques, ensuring equipment reliability through resourceful problem-solving.
- Design and implement retrofits to existing systems, specifying and integrating components such as motors, sensors, actuators, and control systems for seamless functionality and compatibility.
- Provide technical support for general plant operations and project work to maintain optimal performance, collaborating with vendors on equipment selection, specifications, and upgrades.
- Develop preventive maintenance plans to enhance long-term equipment reliability while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Review and maintain equipment control systems to meet safety standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, NEC) while exercising sound judgment and adaptability under pressure.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronics, or Electromechanical Engineering plus 2 years of experience, OR Associate's degree in the same disciplines plus 4 years of experience, OR 6 years of hands-on industry experience – showcasing a proven ability to hit the ground running.
- Fundamental working knowledge of PLC logic and controls (e.g., AB ControlLogix), with the initiative to adapt quickly to new technologies with proficiency in reading prints, AutoCAD, and interpreting, writing, and modifying electrical schematics, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and precision.
- Knowledge of electrical design and safety standards for industrial machinery (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, NEC), with a commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
- Equipment integration experience and a strong aptitude for troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems, exhibiting resilience in tackling complex challenges.
