Associate Provost of Academic Success

SUMMARY

The Office of the Provost seeks an experienced and exceptional individual to serve as the Associate Provost for Academic Success at Palm Beach Atlantic University. A collaborative, experienced, forward-thinking individual is being sought to join our dynamic Academic Affairs team and help advance our institutional mission and strategic plan: to equip students to grow in wisdom, lead with conviction, and serve God boldly.

Reporting to the Provost and Chief Academic Officer, the Associate Provost for Academic Success is a key member of the Office of the Provost’s leadership team and will be responsible for leading the academic systems of support for student success in coordination with university partners as well as oversee key directors, personnel, and operations of academic experience areas including the Rinker Center for Experiential Learning (study abroad), the Frederick M. Supper Honors Program, the Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources, and the Warren Library.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leading Academic Systems of Support for Student Success

Fostering a vibrant academic community, the Associate Provost for Academic Success will liaise with the Student Engagement department to provide visionary and creative leadership in the development, review, improvement, and prioritization of student success programs and monitor accountability for success.

Academic Success Initiatives include:

  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement, academic deans, and other key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for student retention that aligns with the university’s mission and goals, integrating best practices in student persistence, and build toward a frictionless academic experience.
  • Along with the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement, oversee a case management system to track student progression and identify and support at-risk students.
  • Develop and manage programs that encourage student participation in academic clubs, organizations, and honor societies.
  • Evaluate and facilitate the academic advisement areas of the university to align efforts and increase clarity for the student’s curricular experience.
  • Coordinate initiatives that support underrepresented and underserved student populations in their academic pursuits.
  • Evaluate student appeals and requests for exception to policy regarding curricular issues.
  • Utilize the EAB Navigate platform and serve as a point-person for Navigate-related questions from faculty and deans.
  • Develop assessment tools to measure the effectiveness and impact of academic success initiatives, analyze trend data to outline opportunities for improvement, and prepare reports on academic success initiatives.
  • Facilitate faculty-led workshops and seminars that promote interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.

Leading Academic Experience Areas

Strengthening the student academic experience and fostering key academic areas that support a robust academic culture, the Associate Provost for Academic Success will bring an ethos of servant leadership in supervising the directors of the Rinker Center for Experiential Learning (study abroad), the Frederick M. Supper Honors Program, the Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources, and the Warren Library.

The Associate Provost will be responsible for providing oversight to the academic program strategic planning and operational thriving. This includes new academic experience creation in each area (from research, development, approvals, to launch); operational effectiveness reviews; budgetary review; and curricular integration opportunities at all degree levels.

Here is a brief description of these four areas:

The Rinker Center for Experiential Learning

Providing students with life-changing opportunities to travel the world and broaden their perspective on learning and life, The Rinker Center for Experiential Learning offers multiple pathways for study abroad opportunities. Current pathways for experiential and service learning are Semester Study Abroad (Fall, Spring, and Summer), Serve Abroad facilitation (Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks), and Class Abroad (Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks).

The Frederick M. Supper Honors Program

The Honors Program focuses on the primary sources of The Enduring Conversation — the books, the speeches, the works of music, art, and architecture, and the films — that record the history of ideas. This conversation addresses timeless questions and issues that continue to shape our worldviews. The Honors Program brings students into the Enduring Conversation so they can discover its wisdom, equipping them to become better scholars, better leaders, better participants in the marketplace, better citizens, and, most important, better Christians.

The Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources

The Office of Academic and Accessibility Resources provides Disability Services and Accommodations as well as Peer Tutoring, Academic Coaching, and Academic Enrichment programs. Students connect with the resources and learning tools they need to thrive. Testing services and assistive technologies to support learning are offered in this center. The office collaborates with university partners to ensure improvement toward equitable access and academic success.

                The Warren Library

It is a wonderful space filled with Florida sunshine that draws students to the books, publications, technology, and one another. While there are places for solitary study, the overall atmosphere of the Warren Library encourages conversation and collaboration. The comfortable three-story, 86,000-square-foot facility provides Wi-Fi access throughout and houses more than 220,000 volumes (print and online), 127 computers, seating for 647 and 26 study rooms, multiple patios, University Archives, the Lassiter Rotunda, and a first-floor coffee shop (operated by Starbucks Coffee).
