- Designs, implements, and assesses academic services to support students in a wide range of academic disciplines.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
- Evaluates, implements, tracks, and promotes learning resources that assist students in improving learning skills and strategies.
- Stays informed about best practices in academic support to ensure programs are innovative and evidence based.
- Identifies academically at-risk student populations and designs appropriate interventions.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises a team of student peer tutors.
- Develops comprehensive training programs to ensure tutors are equipped with effective strategies and tools.
- Conducts regular performance assessments and provides professional development opportunities for tutoring staff.
- Creates and maintains student staff schedules, room arrangements, dates, times, etc. for delivery of workshops and tutoring sessions.
- Liaises with faculty to understand the needs for tutoring among the academic disciplines and identifies qualified individuals to meet those needs.
- Creates inclusive and accessible tutoring environments for all students.
- Regularly communicates to students regarding the learning resources available to them and how to access them.
- Addresses student feedback and concerns regarding academic support services to continuously enhance the student experience.
- Manages the academic services budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Advocates for funding and resources to expand or enhance academic support services.
- Maintains facilities, equipment, and materials for effective tutoring operations.
- Promotes the availability of Tutor.com. Manages Tutor.com usage in partnership with the e-Learning office.
- Coordinates discipline-specific tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic workshops, college readiness coaching, and other tutoring support programs.
- Builds partnerships with academic departments, advising offices, and student organizations to promote tutoring services.
- Represents the academic resources program in university committees, events, and external professional networks.
- Coordinates with technical departments to integrate academic services into online platforms.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred, or equivalent experience. Discipline in Education, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in academic support services, including tutoring program management.
- Customer Service Orientation – Keeps internal and/or external key stakeholder(s), students, parents, faculty, staff and community partners in mind at all times.
- Professionalism – Displays a high level of professionalism, e.g. timeliness, reliability, communication, and work ethic.
