Summary: Serve as a primary contact for IT support and provide solutions for hardware, software, and network issues to ensure the technology infrastructure effectively supports its educational mission. They will use various monitoring tools, network elements, and management systems to identify and troubleshoot issues in wired and wireless networks. They will assist with software upgrades for network elements and participate in adding or removing network elements as needed. Additionally, they will provide support to ITS desktop support personnel, assist with field support when necessary, and handle ticket management with equipment vendors and carriers. Familiarity with network topologies and basic understanding of servers, both physical and virtual, is required. This role involves managing PBA's network and on-call support responsibility as required.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Support, and Maintenance: Use decision making behaviors that require analytical, interpretative, and creative thinking that may not conform to established patterns to solve infrastructure and/or system needs. Install, configure, and troubleshoot a variety of network hardware and software. Perform the implementation of new wired and wireless network components relative to approved projects. Fulfills departmental requirements for providing work coverage and administrative notification during system outages and large projects. Participates in scheduled on call rotation and network maintenance sessions.
- Network Administration/Engineering: Technical expertise in configuring and maintaining both layer 2 and layer 3 network requirements and supporting network documentation.
- Project Management: Oversee and participate in ITS networking projects from initiation to completion to ensure high-quality technical support across the university.
- Customer Service Excellence: Respond promptly to technical assistance requests via various channels. Maintain and enhance customer service by ensuring effective communication and resolution of IT issues.
- Operational Improvement: Monitor, evaluate, and optimize IT processes and equipment. Recommend upgrades or replacements to enhance technology infrastructure.
- Training and Development: Develop and maintain operational procedures and troubleshooting guides. Participate in ongoing education to remain current with technology trends and best practices. Create and maintain network-related documentation, including ensuring all devices are configured and updated within the appropriate management platform(s).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Business, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in IT (e.g. CCT(Cisco) or FCF(Fortinet)), strongly preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in technical infrastructure support, with proven expertise in troubleshooting and end-user communication.
- Key Technologies: TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, LAN/WAN, VLAN, VPN, Wired/Wireless, Wi-Fi 6, OSPF, BGP, subnetting
