What are the responsibilities and job description for the BRIDGE INSPECTOR II position at Palm Beach County?
Performs advanced technical field work for the Guardrail Program and in the above water inspection, identification and reporting of deterioration, malfunctions and potential hazards of County bascule and fixed span bridges. Assists in the administration of the annual guardrail contract including the recommendation of priority installation sites and conducting preventative maintenance inspections observing for defects in bridge structures. The work of this class differs from that of Bridge Inspector I due to the having additional responsibility assisting with the Guardrail Program. The employee spends a considerable amount of time outdoors climbing bridges, operating and working from a small craft (power boat) often photographing various problem areas. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Bridge Inspection Supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports and onsite review of assigned projects.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of two (2) years of experience in building/bridge construction, repair or inspection including experience rendering as-built/other construction-related drawings.
Necessary Special Requirement: Must apply for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Bridge Inspector Certification within 30 days after all eligibility requirements are met.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Performing structural concrete/steel inspections; reading and interpreting related federal/state/local government regulations and FDOT Design Standards (must specify on application); using Word/Excel/PowerPoint. Also desirable: FDOT Bridge Inspector certification.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds, operate a boat; climb, scale and maneuver a 45-degree slope embankment. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.
