What are the responsibilities and job description for the GENERAL MAINTENANCE MECHANIC position at Palm Beach County?
Performs semi-skilled work and assists higher-level coworkers in performing further-skilled tasks in the repair, maintenance, construction and alteration of building, facilities, electrical, irrigation and other mechanical equipment in County parks and amenities. Responsible for the safe operation of small to large machinery including utility carts, tractors, skid loaders, small to medium sized trucks, large vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) greater than 26,001 pounds, various size bucket trucks and small to medium sized boats. May perform minor plastering, drywall, cement work and interior/exterior painting; assists with maintenance of walls, doors, floors, stairways, windows, screens, wood fixtures and furniture.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) years of experience in building/facilities maintenance, repair or construction at the semi-skilled level.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN: Repairing, maintaining or installing carpentry, plumbing, irrigation, electrical or air-conditioning equipment in a commercial setting; performing maintenance work within a park system or public facility (e.g., hospitals/schools/grocery stores, golf course, country club) (must specify on application). Also desirable: Valid FL Class A CDL with air brakes endorsement.

SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must obtain a FL Class A CDL Permit with Air Brakes Endorsement within 90 days of hire and obtain a FL Class A CDL within 180 days of appointment. Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate
