Pharmacy Skills and Responsibilities:
- Field questions from outside pharmacies regarding faxed prescriptions
- Communicate with veterinarian about any questions or concerns clients have regarding medications
- Maintain cleanliness of pharmacy area, supplies and instruments
- Has the ability to triage medication requests and fill new medication orders accurately and efficiently
- Understands the laws governing the maintenance of appropriate drug control for all drugs, including Schedules II-V.
- Order and restock pharmaceutical inventory to maximize inventory turnover, prevent out-of-stocks, and minimize expired drugs.
- Ensures correct storage conditions for medications, checks for expired drug products and other defects, and removes them from inventory.
- Dispensing prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and state and federal legal requirements.
- Calculating drug dosages & preparing medications
- Reviewing prescriptions issued by DVMs to assure accuracy
- Maintaining established procedures concerning quality assurance and security of controlled substances.
- Assist with control substance reporting requirements with the State of Florida
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal care facility is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of animal behavior, handling, and restraint techniques
- Familiarity with common veterinary medications and treatments
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills with both clients and team members
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
