What are the responsibilities and job description for the Desert Hot Springs Animal Clinic Veterinarian position at Palm Springs Animal Shelter?
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Veterinarian will be the primary onsite veterinarian at the Desert Hot Springs Animal Clinic and be responsible for overseeing the facility and treatment of owned animals: the clinic is expected to open in May 2025. This position will work closely with the Palm Springs Animal Shelter Medical Director, Dr. Caldwell, to ensure the welfare of all animals. The veterinarian will also provide leadership and direction to all members of the DHS facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to perform spay/neuter surgeries, other surgeries, and dentals.
- Help to ensure the safety and health of animals within the facility.
- Work with the Medical Director to ensure all animals receive appropriate and timely medical care, and prescribed medications as needed.
- Oversee public vaccination clinics.
- Practice high quality shelter medicine; an emphasis is placed on problem solving through physical examinations and use of in-house diagnostics when possible.
- When requested, participates in community outreach events such as education, wellness clinics, microchip clinics, and public spay/neuter clinics as requested.
- Delegates select administrative and veterinary assistant duties as needed.
- Maintain appropriate medical records.
- Maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
- Willing to attend meetings and training pertinent to the position.
- Operate within compliance with state, federal, local, AVMA laws and guidelines.
- Adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures as stated in the employee handbook and Standard Operation Procedures manual.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current license in the State of California to practice veterinary medicine
- Current DEA license
- Experience in veterinarian clinic medicine with proven high volume spay/neuter experience preferred.
- Proven management and leadership skills.
- Ability to work well within a fast paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven organizational, time management, and planning skills required.
- Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers, and community, remaining professional, pleasant and respectful at all times.
- Maturity with ability to use good judgment and display a professional manner.

Salary : $150,000 - $170,000
