Surf Patrol Mission:
This position will oversee the safety and experience of guests surfing in the surf pool at PSSC. Our job is to provide a safe and fun experience leaving customers with an authentic feeling comparable or better to that of an ocean experience. Our job is akin to that of a Tavarua boatman. If you don't know what that is, this job may not be for you. We will be the first line of defense in the event of accidents and injuries in the pool. We will also be the team that provides helpful advice on surfing, paddling, knowledge of the waves, and ensuring we give each customer the best shot at having success in their session. This position will be extremely active. We will be in the water surfing, we will be swimming, we will be operating the surf system, we will be helping learners stand up for the first time, all while being good stewards of surf culture and stoke. This job has a lot of fun baked in to it, but it is a job so we will be professionals in every sense of the word.

Has surf experience above the level of intermediate
Has a history of surfing in competitions
Doesn't carry around an ego regarding their surf abilities, we will be dealing with all skill levels of surfers and need to help them progress their journey
Is responsible and dependable, can hold down a work schedule even if the waves on the coast are cranking
Has patience and is a good communicator
Is flexible, sometimes we will be called in to other areas of the operation for an assist
Is calm, cool, and collected in the face of emergencies and on crowded days
Is tech savvy, knows their way around touchscreens and computers
Holds self and others accountable
Qualifications and Skills:
A candidate for this position must possess the following applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her competency.
Can surf above an intermediate level
Can swim and dive, allowing them to pass required lifeguard training certifications
Can articulate the skills required to surf with ease
Can read wave patterns and can spot potential accidents or collisions before they occur
Experience in customer service is a plus
Can operate iPads and touchscreens in accordance with facility procedures
Track record of delivering exceptional customer experience
Excellent judgment with strong problem-solving capabilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills, i.e., poised and engaging, empathetic communication styles that can enliven, engage, and positively impact individuals and groups
Physically able to lift longboards, SUPs, etc and has the ability to meet minimum lifeguard certification requirements
Ability to act quickly and efficiently with high degree of professionalism
Customer service orientated
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Able to operate a waterproof camera
Preferred Qualifications:
Current lifeguard certification preferred
Previous full-time job experience is preferred
Background in lifeguarding is highly desirable
Background in surf instruction is highly desirable
