Job Summary
Under the direction of the equipment mechanic, the assistant equipment mechanic assist in ensuring that all golf course maintenance mechanized and motorized equipment is in an efficient, operable, and safe condition and works independently to repair and maintain various gasoline and diesel-powered golf maintenance equipment while maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. Contributes to a preventative maintenance program and warrants safety procedures a top priority.
Essential Duties
- Performs preventative maintenance, inspects, conducts repairs, and maintains all mechanized and motorized vehicles and equipment. Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, and repairs mechanical defects and/or failures on a variety of golf course vehicles and equipment.
- Works with Equipment Mechanic to prioritize repair and maintenance work.
- Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed.
- Assists in ensuring equipment is inspected, fueled, oiled and lubricated, and safely operable.
- Assists in setting up and modifying new equipment as needed.
- Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment
- Sharpens mowers with grinders.
- Follows preventative maintenance schedules for oil, grease, filters, air, gas, etc.
- Follows safety procedures for using equipment; demonstrates safe and proper use of new equipment, trains maintenance staff in proper operation and maintenance methods of equipment.
- Inspects equipment for operating deficiencies.
- Assists in performing general overhaul and other preventive maintenance on all equipment.
- Assists in performing tasks associated with maintaining properly performing cutting units, including adjusting heights, reel adjustments, grinding wheels, and blades of reel mowers.
- Assists in maintaining a clean and well-organized parts inventory room and maintaining accurate inventory of all equipment and parts; assists in identifying and ordering parts and equipment as needed.
- Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, work environment and adhering to proper recycling and/or disposal methods for various oils, compounds, and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.).
- Assists Agronomy Team with mowing activities as needed.
- Follows prescribed procedures and uses personal protective gear to ensure a safe work environment.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Physical Demands
- Working knowledge of electric and gas-powered golf carts, engines, and hydraulics.
- Ability and tolerance to frequently move heavy objects, lifting overhead, pushing, pulling, and moving objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently tolerate repetitive movement and motion including standing, walking, twisting, turning, bending, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
- Exposure to working outside in Florida temperatures and weather conditions; cold in the winter and extreme heat in the summer.
- Tolerance to moderate noise levels.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, and at least three years of related experience and/or training as a mechanic on golf course equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum age requirement is 18 years of age. Federal and Florida child labor laws prohibit workers under the age of 18 from operating power-driven hoisting equipment (including forklifts), power-driven circular saws, band saws, and guillotine shears; and driving a motor vehicle and being an outside helper on a motor vehicle.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license to operate golf course vehicles.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, and efficient and have the ability to recognize the level of quality acceptable to keep equipment and facilities continually looking their best.
- Must be able to exercise good judgment and communicate effectively with peers.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and the ability to follow directions and complete tasks on schedule.
