Assist teacher, at an assigned center or site, with related instructional activities designed to stimulate learning. Support the teacher in the care and supervision of students.

Receives general supervision at site by certificated staff as well as direction from the Director of Early Childhood Education, or designee.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
Include, but not limited to, the following:
- Assist teacher in implementing educational and developmental activities for children.
- Assist with planning of curriculum.
- Assist with child's personal, physical needs, meals and snacks, safety, etc.
- Assume leadership role in absence of teacher.
- Confer with appropriate staff member prior to intervention in any potentially stressful family situations.
- Participate in case conferences as requested.
- Perform paperwork tasks as required; maintain confidentiality of records and information on Head Start families.
- Develop skills in methods of teaching.
- Take more responsibility in educational and developmental processes.
- Attend and participate in weekly center meetings.
- Assume a degree of responsibility for updating bulletin boards.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age or older, and
- High School Diploma or GED certificate required, and
- Successful completion of twelve (12) units college level Early Childhood Development education (including core courses such as child/human growth & development, child/family/community relations, and programs/curriculum) with current enrollment in an accredited Early Childhood Education program to completion of twenty-four (24) units within two (2) years; such individuals must be enrolled each semester or quarter in an educational program until the 24 units have been completed, and
- Hold or qualify for a Child Development "Associate" Teacher Permit (or higher permit). May be required to hold or present proof of application for the Associate Teacher Permit to qualify as required by the Early Childhood Education program;
AND
Possession of any One of the following:
a) Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or enrolled in a CDA program, or
b) Associate's degree (in any area), or enrolled in a program leading to such a degree, or
c) Baccalaureate's degree (in any area), or enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish language.

Examination
The examination components consist of a qualifying written multiple-choice and oral exam. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and are notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance. After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies. When eligibility lists include open and promotional lists of qualified persons through competitive examination, the promotional list will be used first, unless otherwise stated on this bulletin.
Work Year
This position observes a 185-day work calendar, and typically works part-time at either three hours and forty-five minutes (3.75) or five hours and forty-five minutes (5.75) per day dependent on program needs.
Salary
The salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate five-step salary schedule for this position. The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.
Holidays and Leaves
Seventeen (17) paid holidays that fall within the work year, pursuant to the District's Collective Bargaining Agreement with California Schools Employees Association Chapter 296 (CSEA).
Sick leave shall be granted in the proportion of daily hours worked. Vacation is earned at the prescribed rate as part of compensation, and does not become vested until after completion of the initial probationary period.
