What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Technician (Part-Time Overnight) position at Palmer Addiction Recovery Services?
Summary:
Monitor, observe and ensure the safety and well-being of consumers in a residential treatment setting. Provide motivational and educational support and guidance to assist consumers in meeting therapeutic goals. Facilitate program schedule, safety, and orderliness.
Schedule: Thursday/Saturday/Sunday 11pm-7am (overnight). Possibility to pick up additional open shifts.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all Palmer goals, strategies, and values.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with Palmer Polices and state and federal laws.
- Role model appropriate behavior, professional boundaries, respectful communication, and personal appearance in accordance with Employee Dress Code.
- Monitor facility and consumers while on shift. Ensure consumers stay on schedule for treatment activities.
- Facilitate groups as assigned.
- Record observations. Complete paperwork for various duties in a timely manner and in accordance with Palmer’s Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain accurate shift log documentation of events that occurred while on shift. Communicate pertinent information to next shift and Treatment Team.
- Follow Palmer’s procedure for requesting supplies, maintenance, and resources.
- Enforce all facility rules fairly and consistently.
- Transport participants to and from scheduled appointments, school, meetings, and recreational activities using agency vehicles. Follow agency policy and all federal and state laws. Requires registration as an agency driver with Human Resources.
- Conduct intake and discharge procedures using Palmer’s guidelines and requirements. Orient new clients to program guidelines and facility.
- Conduct daily room checks and hourly bed checks at night and as required. Conduct package, mail and baggage checks as required.
- Participate in ongoing in-service education programs and staff development programs.
- Maintain knowledge of agency policies, procedures and training.
- Maintain core competencies in relation to working with substance use disorders through continuing education and implement skills learned.
- Maintain facility security and assist in basic crisis intervention.
- Follow all safety, emergency and evacuation procedures to ensure safety of self, staff, and consumers.
- Assist in client drug testing and documentation (collection of urine specimens and conducting breathalyzer tests).
- Assist in medication management as needed (CMA Certified Behavioral Health Technicians only).
- Assist in meal preparation and kitchen duties as needed and within Food Safety Guidelines.
- Individual will not conduct drug tests or transports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Director.

- High school diploma or GED
- Current Oklahoma Driver’s License and acceptable driving record according to Motor Vehicles Records
- Current Oklahoma Department of Health Food Handler’s Permit
- Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification
- Certified Medication Aid Certification preferred
- Computer skills including Microsoft applications Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Previous experience working in a residential treatment setting preferred
- Previous training in substance abuse treatment theory and practices preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Job requires twisting, lifting, standing, sitting, walking, stretching, kneeling, bending, and squatting.
