Essential Functions:
- Check with the dispatcher before departure to confirm any changes in normal duties or student passenger updates.
- Perform a pre-trip inspection according to DOT regulations and complete a radio check before starting each route.
- Pick up students at designated stops, ensuring children safely board the bus and are seated before proceeding to the next stop.
- Maintain discipline during the ride, reporting any incidents to the Site Manager and communicating with school authorities as needed.
- Operate the bus safely by following all traffic laws, state, and federal transit regulations, while being aware of potential hazards such as ice, debris, or slippery roads.
- Conduct a final check of the bus upon arrival at the garage to ensure no child is left behind.
- Transport students and approved passengers to field trips, sporting events, and other activities.
- Report accidents immediately to the Site Manager and complete the accident report promptly.
- Maintain the bus by keeping fuel levels above half a tank or refueling after each trip. Clean the interior of the bus regularly, alerting office staff to any maintenance needs.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, and workshops to gather information necessary for job performance.
- Valid Minnesota Commercial Driver's License with passenger, school bus, and air brake endorsements.
- Strong knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with emergency evacuation techniques and basic first aid/CPR certification (if required).
- Understanding of health standards and potential hazards.
- Awareness of state regulations and laws related to school bus operation and child behavior.
