Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive body repairs on school buses, ensuring all work meets or exceeds Department of Transportation (DOT) safety standards.
- Repair and replace structural components, including crossmembers, door bottoms, and side panels.
- Conduct thorough rust abatement, including removal, treatment, and prevention.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and metalworking as required.
- Inspect and assess damage to school bus bodies, providing accurate estimates for repairs.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs performed.
- Utilize hand and power tools, welding equipment, and other specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Collaborate with other maintenance staff to ensure timely completion of repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a body repair technician, preferably with experience in heavy-duty vehicles or buses.
- Strong knowledge of DOT safety standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in welding MIG and metal fabrication.
- Experience with rust abatement and corrosion prevention techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret estimates and SOP’s
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical/vocational training preferred).
- Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASE certifications in body repair or related fields.
- Experience working with school buses or similar large vehicles.
